Yet Another Brake Question
I would like to convert a 67 C10 to the JB5 disc/drum configuration. I have been unable to locate a donor 1/2 ton with the JB5 system. What other year and models will have bolt in fronts and proper width rear end housing. I know I will need to weld different spring perches. It would be nice to replace the front crossmember/brakes as an assembly but if not i'll settle for just the parts.

You an swap complete 73+ front crossmembers by drilling a few holes. Several aftermArket manufacturers sell 5 lug axles to swap in your existing rear axle. Search the forum for more info.

Yeah Mechanicalman you're probably right and that's what I might do. But you know they say "it's not necessarily the kill but the hunt". I would still need to address the rear in order to have the 2 3/4 inch wide shoes. I know the burbs have the right size drums but not sure about the width of the rear end housing. Do you know ?

I was going to suggest you get a donor 73-87 and take the front cross-member, booster/master, prop valve and rear end, as it seemed you were up to welding perches on what I assumed would be the rear end and convert to 5 lug. But I did a craigslist search for your area and did not turn up even one in the parts section. You live in a tough neighborhood, parts-wise it would seem. |

Yeah mechanicalman you're right about the rust, the humidity gets real bad in summer months. Every thing rusts here. So between the rust, cash for clunkers and the scrap prices were real high a couple of years ago a lot of them got scraped.
