New to straight 6 world--help with info on engine and carb

Like the title says, I am new to the inline 6 world...this is my first one!! I have read a lot about the 230 and 250 engines but cant seem to find any numbers to help me identify which engine I have IN MY 1966 C-10 Service Truck. Where is the numbers located that will help me identify it? Also, I can see no numbers or name on the carb (I assume it is a Rochester 1 barrel). I need a rebuild kit and Auto Zone has one but I need to know what type carb this is. Also, looking for info on the small silver square part next to the carb (I assume it is some sort of heat riser during warmup, but not sure) it is not hooked up. And lastly the bracket under my carb that is not hooked up as well. Any info on these questions or anything else you can add would be appreciated. Thanks

WHAT IS THIS PART????

The numbers are cast directly into the block. I'm not sure if you can read them while the engine is in the truck, they are on the driver's side of the block.

Other than a Rochester 1-barrel, I'm not sure on the carb number. Also the 230 in my 65 didn't have that silver box that I can recall but it has been a while.

if the motor is true to the truck you can look at the side covers and tell if it is a 250 or a 292 six. the 292 has 6 inch side covers and the 250 has the 4in side covers

While it could have been painted, I though all 292's were green?

Also those side covers look like the 4-inch ones.

Theres a pad next to the distributor with a number stamped into it and another number casted into the block further back.

Looks like a 250 to me.

Pull the carb and take it in to match the kit.

I'm no expert on these chev 6's since I'm an Aussie but I'd say it's a 250 out of something later than 1966. Looks like it has an egr valve which would make think 1970s. nb// egr valve is exhaust gas recirculation an anti pollution system
