Suggestions for Rims
Hello everyone,
My name is Arte and I'm new to this forum. I've searched the forum extensively for answers to this topic and I haven't found the answer I was looking for so I started this new thread. I hope I'm not breaking any rules or anything in the forum but here we go: I recently got a 1968 Custom Camper. It has the original split rims. I need new tires but of course no one wants to work on split rims at the tire shops nearby so I was going to invest in a new wheels. I was wondering if their is an 8 lug wheel available that looks relatively similar to the original for a decent price. I have the original hubcaps that I would also love to use and was wondering if people produce a rim that will take them. |

I used mid nineties Ford wheels. Most tire shops that have been in business for a while will have plenty of stock looking, eight hole wheels that will fit your truck.

I guess I set myself up for failure by going to a fancy shop. They wanted 100 bucks a piece for plain jane steel rims! I'll need to go to an older shop with some older rims laying around.

Check your local pick n pulls or salvage yards. They should have what you need for less than $25.00 each.

Re: Suggestions for Rims
Alright, off to the yard I go! I saw another thread detailing methods to attach the clips for the hubcaps. I might give that a shot. Or just run some basic steel rims. Once I get some pictures I will start a new thread. I'm excited to show the truck off. I got it off the original owner. It came with some cool paperwork(every single registration since 68') and its all original(supposedly!).
anyways, thanks for everyones help! |

Re: Suggestions for Rims
Hey guys I think I found some steelies that I'm going to put on. I want to powder coat them for a factory look. What color would be appropriate? is it a flat white? or satin white? I have the original split rims but I can't tell the original color.

Re: Suggestions for Rims
Hey man, I'm planning on keeping the truck as original as possible. I'm gonna attempt to possibly attach the clips from the split rims to the new steelies and use the hubcaps potentially. If that doesn't work I'll restore them and hang them in the garage most likely lol
If I see a set around though for cheap I'll shoot you a message though! |
