62 C20 steering wheel options on a stock column?
Have a 62 C20 with the stock column and steering wheel. I'm a fairly tall individual and I'm looking for some additional leg room. Considering changing out the steering wheel for a smaller dia. I would prefer to not change the column, not sure of my options?
Do I have any and if yes, what should I be looking for? Dia.? Splines? Etc.... Thanks in advance, Matt |

I used a late 80,s camero wheel...helped a lot.....Also a late 80,s truck seat gives more leg room....only 2 holes to drill

15" Mooneyes Blue sparkle to stick with my 60s theme. Comes dish or flat. Speedway Motors has some that are flat as well.

I looked at speedway, only thing I could find was an adapter and a horn button? Do you have a link? Did you have to use and adapter or did they make one with the correct dia. and splines?

I had to use an adapter but it doesn't move wheel position. It sits inside, slides over splines and has 3 holes.

put your knees behind the wheel and put as much pressure as you can against it, leave the nut on, for 2 reasons... so not to smack your face with the wheel, and so you don't smash the threads on the column..... smash the nut with a B.F.H. and the wheel might pop forward.... I have not used this method, since I have always had the puler, but I have heard it sometimes works....

for the op, pretty much any gm wheel, from the 40's up until the 80's will fit the column, , it is just the size of the column housing that is different, as the others mentioned, an adapter, and a custom wheel are the best (looking) smaller options, there are also reproduction small diameter 59-60 impala, and 55-56 belair wheels, but they are $$$, I also saw some interesting blogs on the net about cutting down/making your own smaller diameter wheel on the net a few years back

I have pulled a bunch of steering wheels (did this just last week to change my wheel to a 64 impala wheel) and never had one refuse to come off this way. again, leave the nut just loosely on, because you will punch yourself in the face if you take the nut off. I have seen it happen! that said, you can rent a puller for free at the auto parts store I am told.
