My New 2014 RCSB Silverado

For the last year I have been looking for a used RCSB truck to replace my 2008 Chevy HHR SS. I never found a good candidate so I decided to buy a new one. It's a 2014 Chevy Silverado RCSB 2WT (WT convenience pkg = pwr windows/locks and keyless entry) with a 355hp 5.3L V8, 6L80E transmission, and a 3.42 gear in a locking differential. I am currently building a '71 swb fleetside so the focus is on that but I would like to put a personal touch on this one eventually. I'm thinking black 20" wheels, a 4"/6"-ish drop and an exhaust. I look forward to looking through some threads, hearing what you all think about my plan, as well as taking advantage some of the "lessons learned".

The truck...

A couple of wheels I like, both are factory wheels that have been painted/coated black.

That looks great. I may have to wait out the warranty though, not sure how dropping it will affect it.

Re: My New 2014 RCSB Silverado

I did my drop at 500 miles on the odometer. If there had been an issue with the suspension that would have required a warranty, then maybe I would have had to eat that one. However, there were no issues found and my buddy at the dealership had no issue with my ride height.

McGaughy's drop, Belltech shocks on the front, Bilstein shocks on the rear, Kooks headers, Kooks 'Y' pipe and catalytic converters, Magnaflow muffler and dual exhaust, Akuza 20" rims with Nitto NT850 --265/50/20 tires, EFI engine and tranny Tune (this would hit the warranty),

I now have over 115,000 miles on this setup and it still runs hard and smooth.

Re: My New 2014 RCSB Silverado

Luckily I have a good relationship with my dealership. I will be talking with the service manager over the next few weeks to gather his thoughts on my plans and how they may affect the warranty. I'm glad to hear you have had a trouble free run for that many miles!

Re: My New 2014 RCSB Silverado

There was one recall for the tranny dipstick back around the 70,000 mile mark and I had the right rear axle seal start leaking at 110,000 miles. Other than that, no problems or issues. I change my own oil and I have a lift, so I can see everything underneath when I do. I had the dealership service the tranny fluid at 90,000 miles.

Re: My New 2014 RCSB Silverado

Silver was my choice but was hard just finding any color with the 5.3 lower gears and trailer tow on a RCSB! Mine is the same as yours but a new 2014 GMC Sierra I just got last week. 5.3, 3.42, trailer tow with posi. chrome and power locks windows and the chrome wheel upgrade. Had the dealer swap over my 17" Michelins from my 9k mile 09 but then I bought a set of 20" factory wheels and tires off a new 2015 LTZ Sub. Now I am trading in the Continental tires for 20" Michelins and have added the SLT grille and some other GM accessories. Adding those rear wheelhouse liners makes the truck sound even more quiet. I am going to try and install 2 LED strips in each factory blockoff where the foglites would go and hook them to the DRL function.
Wanted to drop rear but decided better to leave mine stock height to take advantage of the trailer towing capability with my Featherlite 22 foot open trailer attached.

nice truck. I dig the WT package. and I have the second wheel on my 2011 LT in chrome. but after seeing the powdercoated black one above, I just found my next mod.

How hard was it to install the drop kit? I have seen some late model trucks that require dropping the fuel tank etc. Just trying to get a feel for the level of difficulty.

It took us a little over a day to do it all. There were three guys working on it.

Well, I normally work with my 12 y/o son so this could be a long project for us. I wish I could get a copy of the instructions before buying so I could make sure it's something I can do.

Re: My New 2014 RCSB Silverado

Buck looks like you are up to your neck in bodywork with Shiro (not my strong point. I like bolting things together).

I've got a stock black 2011 Yukon Denali with the 6.2l. Love the motor and would love one for my C10. I should post a picture.

It is stock but I do plan on lowering it. Maybe black it out (although that is getting a bit old). Wouldn't mind some performance mods and a tune but do want to keep it usable for daily driving and for towing a car hauler eventually (my car habit seems to be growing).

Right now I'm pretty focussed on my '67. Progress is pretty slow but I try to keep it drivable and I put a lot of miles on it.

Re: My New 2014 RCSB Silverado

Yep, there is plenty to do with Shiro. I am concentrating on the '71 for now, but someday I'll drop the Silverado and give it an exhaust and some wheels.

I can certainly understand why, they are really fun to drive with 355hp and only weighing 4700lbs. I'm looking forward to making some modifications to mine as soon as I am done meessing with my '71.
