Anyone ever had luck getting summit to honor a warrantee for a bad crate engine?

If you're having a sb replaced by a sb you might get a warranty.
If you're swapping a bb in place of a sb, you better confirm the warranty on paper before they begin.

I am sure there would be a warranty of some sort.

If the engine was bought there, it would have it's standard warranty.

If it was installed there using OEM parts bought there, the parts would have their standard warranty and the labor would have it's own standard warranty.

I am pretty sure about that, BUT, that does not mean that if something was to go wrong, they would not blame it on something other than what they did.

In addition, most shops that sell re-manufactured engines have an extended list of items that have to be replaced/reconditioned or the warranty is invalid. If you miss one thing or do not send in a copy of the receipts with the warranty information, then the warranty is invalid.

Standard business practice.

So true, but they could still have the same restrictions.

No I do not sell engines and have never sold them.

I used to build my own but quit back 20+ years ago. Do not even want to touch all this new fangled crap.

I did replace one in the late 90's in a 1991 Chevy pickup that was my son's. I pulled it , took it to a shop and had them build the long block. We had a full page list of all of the items that had to be replaced with new or rebuilt items in order for the warranty to be valid.

Things like, spark plugs, spark plug wires, water pump all heater and radiator hoses, fuel filter, ect. Even needed to show where I bought new oil and oil filter.

Needed to show proof of having the radiator rebuilt or proof of a new one.

These kind of things. Standard items that you should either replace or rebuild when installing a crate or re-manufactured engine anyway.

I went with a JEGS factory GM replacement 5.7L Vortec for my 98 Tahoe. Everything went off without a hitch. The engine is new, not rebuilt, with a GM factory 3 year/ 36,000 mile warranty and it only ran me $2,091 OTD.

(I had the shop paint it in Hanger Orange prior to install as a nod to history) Although the Hanger Orange only plays "peek-a-boo" through all the smog crap, rofl.

Sounds to me like a bad engine choice. The 290 hp crate engine is a natural born dog especially in a heavy truck with 33" tires.

Sorry guys, I thought I replied to this already. Essentially, the head gasket on cylinder three failed and my radiator cap failed and came loose at freeway speeds in the Nevada desert in triple digit heat. These two things contributed to a hairline crack in the block at cylinder three. Truck was pushing 164,000 miles when it happen. No prior mechanical issues from 71K to 164K (my timespan of ownership). I got it from the original owner about 13 years ago +/-

I think my engine is rated at 255hp (I could be wrong). Honestly I had a GMC with a 5.0 motor and that thing was DOG! Compared to the 5.0 my 5.7 feels like a hot rod, lol.
