Muncie M21 4spd replacement for a Saginaw 441, fitment/dimensions questions
I just blew my Saginaw 441 transmission last week . Been trying to find a Muncie M21 to replace it with.
My question is: How much of a change will the placement of the rods/linkages be on the Muncie? I have a floor Hurst shifter that I know is compatible with the M21, but I'm not sure where it will come up through the floorboard when I have it attached to the Muncie trans. |

It is really far back on the factory bench. I can get better pics in the spring but am running the setup. I have a custom stick where am using two hursts bolted together to push further forward and up higher. I need to do more work in the spring as I hit the seat with second and fourth.

I had an M21 in my '63 for years. The shifter pretty much hit the bench seat in 2nd and 4th with the seat moved all the way back. If you have short legs it will be an issue.
Greg.

I put my Saginaw 4 speed in my father's '66 when the Muncie M20 that was in there had an issue; IIRC the only thing I didn't reuse was the reverse shift rod.
BTW, the shifter for a '55-'57 Bel Air with a bench seat works (at least with the seat back). From the Hurst FAQ: Quote:
