63 to 65 grill swap ,, anyone?
Has anyone done a swap from a 63 grill to a 65 ? I noticed there are no new 63 grills on the market,,, and my chrome plater wants $1200 to re do mine !!!
so a swap may be my best option.. any thoughts on this would be appreciated.. Gav |

OK tell you what, I'll buy you the chrome plated catalog grill of your choice in trade for your '63 grill. No but seriously, 1200 sounds high, my friend had his '63 grill powder coated. It looks great and it wasn't a boatload o' money to do it either. As you may have deduced from my weak attempt at humor in my opening sentence, 1963 grills are kind of a precious commodity.

I didn't realize how hard they are to find ,, the truck I have has all been colour coded and I want to get the chrome back on it,, the grill is the last piece of the puzzle for me.. I had a look around the net and couldn't find a pic of a 64 65 grill on a 63... I need to know if I do the swap will it look outa place on there.. |

The price of chrome keeps going up due to the fact all of the tree huggers and epa shutting down chrome shops. it kills the competition, so now the chrome shops left can charge what ever they want. There are other options than chromethat appear to be chrome. google spray on chrome it looks very similar to real chrome even can be applied to flexible plastic. You can also see this stuff in action on you tube they even chromed a real fish!

The grill would swap but you might have to re-drill a hole or two, but I would sure hang on to the 63 grill.

powder coat it in bright aluminum, it will look fabulous and more stock than a chrome 64 grille. (and better, 63 is the best grille in my opinion)

Besides a few minor surface rust spots from stone chips, it was perfect. I have a 65 grill cheap if you need one. |

not to hijack this thread, but are 63 grilles really that rare? And here I was going to take the 63 grille off my 64 because it looked funky on there.
I can't find a good price on bezels for it... http://i.imgur.com/8d8MJTt.jpg

Just a heads up everyone. We are skirting on the rules regarding WTB, WTS type postings regarding non subscribing members (i.e. Paid). Straight trades with NO money involved is one thing. If money hits the table, it violates forum rules and this thread will be locked.
Let's keep this on track. Everyone needs to abide by the same rules that everyone agrees to when they sign up on the site. Ignorance of the rules is no excuse. Thanks all.

Re: 63 to 65 grill swap ,, anyone?
Figarus, the only re-pop grilles are 64-66. The 60-63 trucks had a unique grille for each model year...so in short I'd have to say, "yes, they are kinda rare"

hmmm. Well, In light of what chevy mike has reminded us, If anyone does want to trade a 63 grille, I would like to trade with no cash involved for a 64-66 grille.

Re: 63 to 65 grill swap ,, anyone?
I'm in need of custom trim. I have a new ECE chrome grill and new bezels still in the original packaging. If anyone has trim that's in decent condition pm me maybe we can swap. I also have the gauge cluster out of my truck that I'm willing to throw in also.
The cluster is in Excellent condition! |
