Cool Not sure what to expect, advice?

What do you need to do to a vehicle that sat for two years...know defects needs tires, ac quits at stop light owner seems to think its a relay. Power steering leak.

Going to look at a 90 suburban this afternoon. Any advice?

What I know I'll have to do,
Tune up
Oil change, maybe it'd be better to flush all fluids.
Needs tires
Stickers (inspection, registration)
What about the fuel, let the old gas run out or leave it alone?

90 chevy suburban pretty sure it is a 350tbi, transmission unsure.

As always thanks in advance for taking the time to answer my question! It is greatly appreciated.

After two years, I'd prime the lifters before start up.

Drain the old gas. Go through the fuel stsyem and replace filters. Same for oil, tranny, brakes, diffs, etc.

Tune it up as needed, but expect it'll need a bit. Vehicles are always better off when ran vs. sitting.

What's the reason it sat for 2 years?
IMO, a power steering leak or the ac cutting out is not a reason to park a truck in a field. Even my plow truck used to get shuttled around the dooryard a couple times a year.

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.

Re: Not sure what to expect, advice?

^^Thanks. Not sure on the reason, I will ask. Didn't get a chance to see it yesterday. But it gets moved from the driveway to garage if the counts. I'm thinking the exhaust pipes need to be checked, saw a truck at the junk yard with exhaust pipes rotted through.

I'd be more worried about the drive train and brakes,Anything else can be fixed when needed. And the trans should be a 700r4/4l60 in it.

Re: Not sure what to expect, advice?

If it's been started periodically, you can forget priming the lifters.

Years ago, I installed a used motor in a truck, and did not realize I should've primed it... It hadn't ran in years, and my oversight cost me the cam, all my time, and eventually the motor, which filled up with metal shavings.

Live and learn!

Re: Not sure what to expect, advice?

Bear in mind that rubber age hardens, particularly if it is not kept immersed in oil/fluid.

So watch out for the rubber parts:

- the brake master cylinder. There is a rubber cup on the end of the piston that will harden if not exercised. This results in the brake pedal slowly falling toward the floor as it is held.

- the brake slave cylinders.

- engine, transmission and power steering seals. These tighten up as they harden and then don't seal. They can be loosened up with a good seal conditioner that replenishes the lost elastomers, such as AT-205. Careful, though. Some seal conditioners act to partially dissolve the rubber, and that is not good. Get the good stuff. One bottle in the engine oil. One in the trans. Part of a bottle in the P/S pump.

- Of course you are going to need new windshield wiper blades. Easy to forget until it rains.

- Something to replenish door and window seals. If anybody has a good suggestion here, please pipe up. Again, something that is easy to overlook until it rains.
