What dictates size of sway bar?

I am going to order some new sway bar bushings for the front of my C15 short bed. I have not went out and measured to see which one of the three I have. It just got me to wondering what dictates the diameter of the sway bar.

Re: What dictates size of sway bar?

You probably have the 1 1/16 bar. The 1 1/4 only came in 1 tons and camper special trucks from the factory.

Re: What dictates size of sway bar?

According to my parts book all 2wd C10, 20, 30s used the same bar. The heavier bar was only used in the C20 and 30 series with H.D. stabilizer bar.
Which would agree with KrazyRay

The size is dictated by diameter. If you have a caliber just measure it.

Re: What dictates size of sway bar?

Just for reference if it helps, my trucks build sheet lists the HD bar as RPO F58. I have a Camper Spec C30.

You can easily measure them with open end wrenches.

Post Re: What dictates size of sway bar?

I found an HD bar in the wreckers today on an 82 C30 crew cab. Shame I did not take the right tools for the job with me. I guess I'll go back next weekend for it.

Re: What dictates size of sway bar?

I ended up having the 1 1/16" bar. I just wasn't sure what dictated the size as there was four sizes listed.

Re: What dictates size of sway bar?

The diameter/size of the bar dictates the stiffness of the bar(resistance to body roll). The bar will come with the proper bushings to fit the bar.
