Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Thanks Kim, it's a big tank but with the flat bed frame work we knew we could push it up farther than normal...fits in nice for 44 gals.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
We finished fitting and welding the exhaust up tonight...gonna run through some FM 40s under the door to behind the side boxes to slash cut tips at the top rear of the boxes...might be a little loud.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Looking good guys. I hope you never meet a guy who likes to,put square holes in everything. He'd be like your evil twin. Lol. What are your plans for sound deading for the cab. Noise is cool out side but as I get older I like it less inside . That thing is going to have a rumble to it for sure .
Keep up the great work.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Am I missing something? It looks like the exhaust goes thru the upper dump bed side rail??? Did you decide to eliminate the dump feature?

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Thanks AD!
Thanks Kim, you and many others have set the bar high...we're just trying to keep up! Quote:
The exhaust tip is capped off flat at the back. The exhaust tubing comes up behind the side box and goes into the side of the tip...dump feature is alive and well.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Welded some angle to the tank and some tabs on the frame, 3/8" rubber strips in between tank and frame at the three mounts and tank is bolted in.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
We're starting to fit the cylinder/scissor lift into the frame and are figuring out a few things...
It's going to have to sit on top of the truck frame (driveline clearance) so we removed the rear crossmember we had previously flipped upside down to support the lift framework (won't work like we had thought ) and added some internal gussets into the frame where the front bed feet hit, the lower lift pivot will sit, and the frame splice is. We then boxed the frame in from just behind the rear cab mounts, over the gussets, and back to the previously boxed rear portion of the frame. I'm not worried about the integrity of the frame in this area... Got some smoothing to do tomorrow then onto the lift mounts...

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
We got the exhaust back from being ceramic coated...came out pretty good.
We added one last section of through tube to the frame rails between the spring hanger brackets on each side and got a good start on the lower lift pivot.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Thanks for the details and pictures, your at a good point for me right now as I may be doing a tilt on mine soon. Do you know how much weight you will be able to tilt? Are you going to use hydraulic or electric ram? Your fab skills are top notch.
