Re: 350 to 383. Is it worth it?
I was debating the same issue with the 383/350 switch. I ended up buying a turn key 350 sbc crate motor from westcoastengines.com. I was looking at the mild 383 and it was about $1000 more than the 350 I bought. The sales person, Brady, actually talked me into the 350 after listening what and who the truck was for. The truck is my daughter's daily driver for high school so she doesn't need 350+ hp. So I bought the 350 and it had it dyno'd after it was built it came out at 335hp @ 4600 rpm & 388 lbs of torque at 4100.
I had the motor put in a few days ago and its so much fun that my daughter has had to drive my 13' RAM 2500 turbo diesel so I can "break" it in properly . If the truck was for me and more of a weekend truck I probably would have gone 383. cheers I will have to update my signature info but below is what the truck has now: 72' C10 SWB with metallic blue wrap instead of paint 350 SBC w/Holley 600 CFM Edelbrock Performer RPM 9:5:1 compression, heads type 882/624, camshaft 220/224.535" roller rockers & roller cam Sanderson Headers TH350 w/3.08 gears
