1957 3600 door weatherstrip wind noise

hi.

bought a 1957 3600 that had some work done to it (in a good way).

looks like the prior owner put in new door weather stripping after painting the truck.

now, even though the weather stripping looks new, I get terrible wind noise and can see gaps from inside.

the doors are aligned perfectly, so it is not that. with the amount of noise, and gaps, it is almost as if the wrong ones were put on (doubtful) or maybe were installed backwards (not sure)?

any ideas?

also, any pics of a door seal for 2nd series that is installed correctly and you don't have any wind noise?

thanks

Re: 1957 3600 door weatherstrip wind noise

sometimes the weather strip is installed backwards on these trucks.
it is very easy to install it backwards, if it looks right it's usually installed wrong
i originally installed my weather strip backwards and have since turned it around the correct way

this is the way it should look

you will have noise no matter which direction you installed it
less if it's installed right

Re: 1957 3600 door weatherstrip wind noise

Today I finished up installing my new weatherstripping (from Brother's Truck Parts). The previous owner had installed his weatherstripping backwards (with the tall side against the door frame, in addition to it being sort of hard compared to new stuff.

Before you would feel drafts of cold air driving along and could stick a pencil through the opening in spots.

With the new WS installed the right way (as Orge has in the pics) everything is much improved. No drafts, quieter, warmer. Yes, the doors do take grunt to close, I'm going to give the new WS a couple weeks or month to settle in before I start tweaking the door lock strike.

Between the new WS and chasing down and eliminating a majorly annoying squeek from a loose battery box bolt, old Janky is better than ever

Re: 1957 3600 door weatherstrip wind noise

problem corrected!

the weather stripping was indeed installed backwards.

many thanks for the comments, pics, and post reference.

I pulled it off, put it back on correctly, and there is next to no wind noise. still a little noise as mentioned in one of the replies, but so much better.

those little clips that hold the rubber to the door are a real battle to get out and back in. I noticed some of the clips are missing. where can one get those little clips? or do they just come with a replacement weather stripping?

I will post some pics.

thanks

Little 3M gorilla snot will hold it in place, a lot of guys do not even bother with the clips. Also, did he install the trim piece along the bottom to keep it from drooping? Mine was completely rusted away except for two screws did not know it went there until I ordered the WS.

And Ogre really needs pictures, its an engineering thing....

I've dropped a few pics on the threads about interiors and wheels here.
I've got a few pics posted here: https://59apache.shutterfly.com/

I'm a mechanical engineer in the aerospace industry, Janky and I are both of '59 vintage.
My oldest brother bought the truck in the mid 2000's give or take, from a guy in WV I think. In early 2009 he passed on and his widow remained at their home. She, not being very automotive minded didn't drive the truck and a '56 Chevy car he had at the time at all in the intervening years.

This past summer I learned she had to move from their house to an apartment, and the property would need to be liquidated.

I had always liked the Apache since my brother had bought it, so I approached her about buying it and in early November we struck a deal and it was mine!

As it had sat and not run in the last 6+ years it needed some going thru. I live two hours away from where it was stored and luckily there is an older gentleman that is a family friend and a good street rod builder to boot. He was willing to trailer it to his shop and take care of the basics to get it running well enough that I could drive it home. Being my brother and this fellow knew each other for decades I think there is some good karma going on with this project.

So far what's been knocked out is:
1) The brakes were gone thru, fresh fluid and wheel cylinders.
2) A Pertronix system/plugs/wires to handle the sparks installed.
3) Heater core was rebuilt and the heater is now operational.
4) Oil and filter changed.
5) Radiator refill/new hoses.
6) Drained the stale fuel and replaced the carburetor.
7) General electrical checkout, gauge panel refreshed.
8) New tires installed.
9) New divider felt, door weather stripping and window sweeps.
10) Installed carpet.

Luckily it's been in a metal building so there hasn't been much weathering to speak of. The body is in great shape, the engine bay can use some freshening up which holds a 235 and three on the tree.
This forum looks like it has some great tips and camaraderie. Cheers.

I could not find any metal trim at the bottom of the doors.

one of the doors was missing the weather stripping at the bottom, and the other door had it held in place by those little plastic clips.
