better late then never....62 C10 "build"

Well, I figured I've been on this forum for quite some time now and it's the best site hands down. Everyone on here is amazing and without the members here, I'd be doomed for sure. So, THANK YOU ALL!!!!!

Also I figured I'd make a build thread to show you all my appreciation and evidence of the knowledge I've gained from you all, but also to show the slow feeble attempt I have at getting this truck to the daily driver life it deserves! By no means will it be a show truck, but just one that is happy to roll down the road, as I am to drive it.

Here she is as I bought it about 9 months ago for a real good deal. Wish I had more pictures of the truck and the amazing "custom mods" that the previous owner did, but I'm slowly fixing all that as time and money allow.

My plan was perfect to go buy it......kinda. My ride fell through and the seller was only going to give me a deal if I bought it that day, so I jumped in my car, tools in hand ( the owner wasn't sure it would make it back to Oakland ) and off I went. I bought the truck after a questionable test drive ( was too excited to think better ) and right when I was leaving, the one time it rains in California, it pours. Without any headlights, wipers, or even a friend to follow me, I took off down the dark wet highway and 2 hours later made it home! We bonded on that death ride home, she didn't kill me and for that, I decided to devote any of my extra money, time and bloody knuckles for this truck!

Re: better late then never....62 C10 "build"

Since then, I've put in a T5 trans that I rebuilt ( first time doing it was kinda scary ) fixed and cleaned the wiring, got the motor all tuned up and happy, replaced some broken parts, and a few other odds and ends.

The scary T5 rebuild but thankfully member LugNutz had the most amazing write up along with answering any questions I had along the way! So rad! http://lugnutz65chevystepside.weebly...n-rebuild.html

She's getting there, but lots and lots of work to go!

I scored a 84 crossmember and 10 bolt rear end. Right now I'm rebuilding both, and hopefully doing the swap soon once I get all the parts gathered. BUt scored all this for 100 bucks!

I'll try to be better about posting progress, but time is always hard to find, and especially money, but just wanted to say thanks again for everyone out there and all your help! You guys rock! Oh and my dog Lydia loves you all too!

Thanks for starting your build thread. That's a nice looking truck you've got, and some darn nice progress to show as well. Most of us don't build show trucks, just stuff to enjoy. It's fun checking in just to see what others are doing which helps motivate other forum members.

Well I just had my best laugh of the day. The pic of Lydia cracks me up. Welcome aboard and good luck on your build. You have a nice truck and as 1963c-10 mentioned that 63 grill does make the 62's look better IMO.

Re: better late then never....62 C10 "build"

Got a little bit more done on the 62 thanks ever so much to Joe Pass and all of his help. The previous owner had done some weird hacking to the horseshoe mount so only two bolts were holding the front of the motor in. Swapped it out for some 67-72 motor mounts and perches.

Joe's shop is pretty much the coolest place ever and I'm going to somehow convince him to let me live in the attic one day.

And I got to ride in his gorgeous 62!

Thanks again Joe for all your help and hospitality! You're the man and I owe you some drill bits!!

Let me know if u start living in the attic. I'll split the rent with you haah! His shop is something else that's for sure..one could accomplish alot in there given the chance. he's been in the same town I'm in. Hiding under my nose this whole time. Good guy though. And nice truck man. Look forward to seeing more
