Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap

It should be noted that Im also swapping in an 87 Blazer fuel tank and sending unit so other sending units may require different fittings. there are also other ways to do this. This was just the way I chose.

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap

So I got my intake nipple for vacuum brakes today. On the hydro boost power steering pump, does it matter which line I use for the return and which one I cap off since I'm not running that system?

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap

Also Ill answer my own question in case somebody reads this one day and wants to know....use the long return line and cap off the short one on the PS pump if not using the hydroboost system.

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap

Looking good, keep us posted on the progress. I'm in the process of a swap on an '86 stepside. I finally got the truck back together and am building brackets to mount the fuse panal and ECM, after that it's just finishing the wiring and tying up a few loose ends, drivshaft and exhaust.

Was this for the fuel pump connector? Do you have the part number by chance? I need to pick one up for my pump.

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap

I'm at my sons middle school awards right now but I'll find that when I get home. It's a Dorman part. Yes, one wire is to fuel pump, the other to fuel gauge. Most people I've seen just hard wire it but I'm trying not to cut anything I don't have too.

Thanks, I would rather have the plug also, rather that hard wire it.

I love the way your truck looks. Where did you get the air filter from?

Here's the one I bought. It looks to be the same, just a couple dollars more. They have different colors.

THANKS! It'll be getting body work and change of color once the swap is done and I save up some more cash. It's taken me several years to get the cash for the swap.
As for the intake, I got it off eBay. It showed it with black couplers which is what I want but they sent it with these brownish red ones. I'm gonna contact seller to see if he'll send me some black ones, but for the price I'm not gonna raise too much fuss. I can get different/better quality couplers at auto store for less than $20 and still be $200 under the price of most name brand kits.
Look at this on eBay:

Nice start! I'm actually more impressed that you got your wife to sit in your truck and smile at the same time. Care to share how to pull that one off? J/K, and sub'd.

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap

So Ive got a total of about 6 hours worth of scrubbing and 4 cans of engine degreaser into this cleaning and it still isnt anywhere near clean enough to paint!!!! WTF am I doing wrong? I've never had to spend this much time cleaning an engine!!!! Guess I'll try to do some more tomorrow after work. I've got everything else painted and would love to start bolting this thing back together soon!

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap

Oh, got more parts in too. The fuel line adapters ended up being too shallow to work so I'm sending them back and getting the crimp fittings or maybe seeing if a hydraulic shop can make me some adapters.

I got a ton of the same parts you have. What are you using to assemble the -AN fittings to the braided hose

Hope you get it straight bro. That things gonna be a beast!!!

I usually just use two regular wrenches or a bench vise and a wrench. Put a piece of electrical tape on the vise jaws and some on the inside of wrench head to keep from scratching up the fittings if you're worried about looks and DONT OVERTIGHTEN THEM!!! Over tightening leads to broken fittings and wrenches slipping off and rounding off edges! Bear in mind that at the hose to fitting connection, the seal is made by a combination of inward and outward pressure on the hose NOT by direct face to face pressure like the fitting to fitting connection so it's not necessary to "hulk" the fitting to the hose when assembling them. If they leak at the fitting to hose connection, it's not because it's needs to be tighter, it's because the hose wasn't seated properly and you should redo it!
Just a tip.

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap

So I haven't updated in a few days. Wifey got me sidetracked installing her new litchen appliances. :P

Had to hack up cabinets for new fridge and dishwasher and install a vented hood. Thankfully the new stove-top and wall oven haven't arrived yet, lol. Still have to modify the cabinet doors above the fridge for the smaller cabinets.

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap

So I've got three broken exhaust manifold bolts to get out. So far I've broken four drill bits and a bolt extractor. Im not sure what to do now. Im gonna try to get my welder buddy over here this week I guess.

My cheap ebay headers got here too. they dont look to bad actually. Nice thick flanges too. Hopefully theyll fit and get me going for awhile till I can get afford some full length headers later on.
