Summit 383?

I just got the new summit catolog and was wondering if any body know anything about Recon Remanufactured Crate Engines i am thinking of buying the 383 stroker 430 hp and 450 lbs of torque it looks like a good deal.
The reason i was wondering is i was going to have one of my friends dads build me an engine for 7 grand with this kind of hp and torque but if i can save 2 grand i am going to thanks any help appricated

shop around local......

the last thing you want is to have a problem......
my engine guy's only a few towns away.and i can call or look him in the face anytime.....
i can even drive there and let him check it

to thats worth it's weight in GOLD

MY GUY HAS 383'S REBUILD FOR AROUND 3800.00 WITH STOCK HEADS.....i am thinking that's where your big h.p. improvement
is going to be....well a intake to....but you already got to have a new cam.....

well my friend is in az and i am in co so it is not really local so i would not have that luxury

I built my 400sb for between $2500-$3000 w/ new vortec heads 5.7 rods & Keith Black Hypereutetic pistons !

whats the hp on that 400 kept in mind that that i want 430hp and 450lbs and power cost money

You may want to also consider the GM Crate 383. It is brand new and comes with a warranty. Check out the link below.

They built my 383. Dyno'ed at 443hp and 476lbft.
When you call, ask for Dick, the owner...he's been around for quite awhile.

I've got more cam in it than the ones listed for sale. Was in my '72 Sprint I sold 2 years ago. I pulled it and replaced it with a crate 350 before I sold the Sprint. No way I was selling the 383.
It's been sitting on my shop floor since then. It's going in Project Daisycutter with a dual quad Offy intake, twin 500 cfm Edelbrocks, etc, etc. I'll lose some horsepower with the dual quads vs. the Performer RPM/750cfm it has on it now, but duals just look too cool.
I'll have some pics of it soon as the intake will be back from the powdercoaters soon.
