I'll take 3 at that price and I only need 2 . Better grab it before someone else does .

Re: Going price for factory tilt column

Be sure it's from a truck. Even if it's a van tilt, in great shape it's a decent buy if you need it.

Re: Going price for factory tilt column

Last one I saw on the parts board here the seller wanted 300.00 and it came out out of a very rough truck. 160.00 is great deal.

Re: Going price for factory tilt column

Picked mine up restored for 400. I would suggest if you don't already know, to look for signs of it being an actual truck column, and not a van or rv. I don't know how many people at swap meets swear they have truck columns, when in fact, they're not.

And what signs would I look for to tell if it's van or truck?

Re: Going price for factory tilt column

An rv columns' shift selector at the bottom has 2 90 degree bends in it. The van column has a neutral safety switch located high up on column and the output shaft is noticeably longer than a truck tilt.

Top to bottom in picture below:
- RV. What looks like a tab sticking out near the shift linkage lever is just the clamp that goes to the engine side of the firewall.
- Truck. The firewall/floor seals are pushed up against back of the neutral safety switch in the picture. The van and RV columns also use different seals.
- Van

Re: Going price for factory tilt column

Here's a link to a FAQ thread regarding how to modify the van columns. I THINK you only have to move the switch on the RV columns.

Re: Going price for factory tilt column

The column can still be modified to fit, but I'm glad you were able to figure it out. There's a lot of misrepresentation concerning parts for these trucks, either intentional or not.

Re: Going price for factory tilt column

Van columns shafts can be cut & welded as well, then they are very hard to tell the difference. Then you will still have a collapsible shaft as well.

Re: Going price for factory tilt column

That is a decent price for a RV column. It is a good way to get a tilt without breaking the bank

If you hit something really hard you can find out what a joke the "Collapsible" shaft really is. My tilt came out of a beautiful Cheyenne Super that hit a very large 98 Oldsmobile head on and the lady driving the Cheyenne sheared off the aluminum trunnion in the upper part of the column with her chest as she was doing a final checkout. (yep it killed her graveyard dead) but it didn't collapse the lower shaft as it was the same length as others I checked. You probably have a better chance of winning the lottery that being saved from harm by the collapsible shaft. A block of wood and a big hammer will shorten the shaft so it will mate up with the van tilt. Take note of the effort to collapse it and think about doing that with your chest.

sherm6413 you are good to go, the RV columns that I have seen have the short shaft just like the truck column. Bolt it up and go.

Re: Going price for factory tilt column

Ya I know, I collapsed mine so I could move my column in a couple inches and it was no easy task. Although my collapsible shaft came from a wrecker I had to beat the crap out of it to collapse it.

Re: Going price for factory tilt column

Pulled this column from a 78 Winnabago motor home a few weeks ago, as far as I can tell it's no different than a truck column. It has the straight shift lever, short shaft and cut out for neutral safety switch in the correct location. It does have an odd shaped turn signal lever with built in cruise button tho.
