Is there someone/someplace that reconditions these caps?
I'd like to remove the dents and repaint.

Re: Recondition caps

One weekend in the fall every year the Metal Museum in Memphis TN holds a weekend called craft days or something like that it is where metal workers and artist from all over the country come in and hang out and camp on the river bank and swap stories and whatnot. During the day, they have stuff from all around brought in that needs something and it is booked in and repair orders made and then the ones who do the whatever type stuff is needed they grab up the stuff and go to town working on it. I saw them [it was a team effort]work on the stainless skid strips from a 40 model station wagon. They were nasty and all dinged up but they fixed each one to perfection. I thought about carrying a whole set of upper and lower trim for a short bed over last year when my wife dragged me to it but I didn't cause I rode with one of her teacher friends in a little Honda something.
That would be perfect for you to do something like that cause it is done for a donation to the musem

Re: Recondition caps

I just sent out a painted set to be stripped and chromed. Most shops will take out all the dings and scratches and make them look just like new. I got quotes from $100 each all the way to $350 each, depending on the shop.

I looked up local polishing and plating shops in my area and picked one that I thought would do a good job and had good reviews. They are just doing the chrome part and then I will have the painted part powder-coated.
