School us on Steelies.

What different types of 5x5 15in steelies are there? I have a set on my truck currently but don't know where to look for other sets as roller wheels for my other two trucks. Are there different kinds, widths, cap type etc?

If you've been reading around the site you've seen my schooling. You''ll need to be specific to get a good answer. Are you wanting to know about factory wheels only? Anything available including aftermarket? Now or back then? Be more specific and you'll get an accurate answer.

I don't know how to be more specific. These are the wheels on the 68 currently with the caps. I'd like to find more wheels like it, but don't know what models, years, etc to look for. I vaguely remember something about number of Nubs. I havnt had a reason to pull the caps off to see the number, but I can tomorrow afternoon if necessary. I just don't know what to look for.

Depends on how far afield you are looking. I have 8 lug wheels, 16.5 inch diameter which carry 10" wide tires.

Re: School us on Steelies.

5 lugs are 4-nub. You could be more specific by answering the questions I asked. From factory there was only one 15" wheel offered

Re: School us on Steelies.

Here is a thread that I believe covers the 5x5 15" steelies in more depth than any other thread on the forum: "5-lug Hubcap/Steelie Style Wheel Options" http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=586512

Re: School us on Steelies.

That was a great thread Keith created. We try to keep people straight on the fact that while there are many steel wheels out there to choose from, only factory steel wheels that take hubcaps are steelies. Everything else has it's own name. The name steelies was created as a way to refer to what once was the standard for all American made car wheels, because they were just "wheels". Back in the day, once other styles of steel wheels came out, I used to refer to them as "stock center" wheels or "Kelsey-Hayes", because they made pretty much all the factory wheels. Kelsey-Hayes also made wide steelies you could buy aftermarket. I used to just call them "wide wheels" or "deep dish wheels". Once styled steel wheels came out I would add the "stock center" to those
