Factory Tilt Column
Has anyone on here ever shortened a steering column? I'm 6'1 205 and have after market bucket seats in my 87 truck and the steering wheels sits in my lap. I put a GM column in a CJ7 Jeep several years ago so I'm sure it can be done. I know I'll get at least one suggestion about Flaming River or IDIDIT columns but I dont want to go that route. I think it can be moved 4" closer to the dash and still be able to shift the automatic

Re: Factory Tilt Column
I remember a thread here about a guy using an S10 column in his C10 which was 3 or 4 inches shorter.

Re: Factory Tilt Column
On my K20 I drilled out the plastic knubs at the end of the column, and drove in the collapsable part in 2.5 inches so the upper bolt would go for in the lower hole on the dash.
There quite a few write ups on it. |

Re: Factory Tilt Column
That's what I did on my 68 automatic column. The only difficult part was keeping the neutral safety switch inside the cab but I got it done. All told it took about 4 hours.
