Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Hello everyone, got a little mock up of the exhaust while I am waiting on the New TIG welder to show up. I think I am going to flip the muffler so the inlet is next to the frame rail anyways hope you all good and out in the shop/garage working on your projects!!!

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Hey guys, I have been going crazy. When I get a minute or two I have been doing little things. I decided to powder coat the rear leaf sprints and a bunch of brackets and the inner fender wells.
Sorry Not a good picture. Here are some of the leafs still wrapped up..

Somebody has some new toys. I like the tig welder and the Rotisserie. I powered coated my springs as well.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

DW did you put anything between your leaf springs? Between the leafs springs and the overload it had a white sheet of plastic. I was wondering if I should sheet between all the leafs. What do you think or do?

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

thin plastic might not hurt... I envision squeaking in your future. I used a urethane paint so it will probably do the same.

Did you go with urethane bushings or stock rubber?

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Thin plastic is what I was planning to use. I bought poly bushing and lubed them up good. Plus greassble shackle bolts.

My front springs have black plastic bushing in-between them at each end from factory the rear spring did not come with anything and I left them that way. It would be a good idea to put some plastic in-between them.

My front tuff country springs have the black plastic cushions on the ends also. It's the original rear springs I will have to sheet.

I've seen people use graphite paint between leaves to make them slide nice and easy. I would think with plastic you'll need uhmw or polyurethane, something that will handle the beating

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

I think I can cut to fit and put hole in them and bolt in between springs. When I took the spring pack apart it had a white plastic sheet between the overload and the spring pack. So I think I am going to try the same. Just between all the leafs

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

That might work. I thought about buying some plastic from Super Lift and using those if they sell them. they would snap into a hole that would be drilled.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

I thought about those snap in ones also. But I was worried about drilling holes in a leaf spring. I heard bad things after people have done it. Spring snapping etc.

That's why I didn't do anything I was unsure about modifying the springs.

Just cut them into playing card size and sandwhich them between the springs in the Ubolt area...

my Super lift springs are at the end of each spring where the movement is. installing them at the U bolt area wont do much for movement.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

The roll of liner above is 4" wide x 8' long so I was thinking of just cutting the roll in half and running it the length of the springs.

Give a go it should work. the metal straps that keep the springs aligned will keep them from shifting from side to side.

I got chance to play with my new tig welder. Decided to just jump into fabricating the exhaust. This picture is from the passenger side header and around the tranmission/t-case brace to the 2-1/2" to 3" Y-pipe.
