Short wide BED (NOT THE FRAME) cut down from long bed
First- I already have a short bed frame. I am interested in cutting down the BED only. I have heard that cutting a LONG BED into a SHORT BED is not that big of a deal. I have (2) LWB's with metal floors that are both pretty decent beds. I have been trying to buy a short bed for about 2 months. I have WTB listings on Craigslist in OKC and in Tulsa. Sorry I am not going to pay $1000 for a bed that still needs to be worked.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for instruction on this? What do I need to specifically watch out for? Also I am going to have lots of extra parts once I start tearing into this. I'll be posting later. Thanks in advance.

I'm headed out to work on the '67 Panel so I don't have time to look anything up for you but if you type the words "longbed to shortbed" into the GOOGLE search box at the top of this page, click on the circle in front of "67-72chevytrucks.com and click on the GOOGLE button you will find lots of threads on the subject. Just make sure the thread you are looking at refers to your style of truck. (Hits will include all years) LockDoc

Re: Short wide bed cut down from long bed
I believe there is also a good thread on it in the FAQ section.... covered many times.
Or just use google and type in 67-72 longbed to shortbed conversion

Re: Short wide bed cut down from long bed
There are quite a few threads on here with shortened long beds.
Just take 12" out of the front and 8" out of the back. How you do it is up to you. Here's mine Tony's method in the thread linked above was a clever way. He saved a lot of welding. This is his thread with more detail on the bed http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=667694

I like the way this guy did it. His way of cutting the bedsides down is different and interesting. |

Re: Short wide bed cut down from long bed
the thing is everybody says look here look there the trouble is nobody is posting the failure pictures that ended up in the dumpster I think there are a lot more of them than success stories
