Re: New Project: 1974 2WD Shortbed
I just spent my lunch break reading through this. You have done really nice work while learning the process the whole time. Keep it up, I'll be following along.

Re: New Project: 1974 2WD Shortbed
I have been busy with life, but with spring here I am ready to get back to work. I am thinking that I am going to jump on some of the interior work for a while. Here are some pics of where I last left off with the interior. I have to make the center console, and the door panels. I want to work on those next.
The pass side door panel is not as far along as the driver side. So I have to play catch up on the pass side... |

Re: New Project: 1974 2WD Shortbed
Are those door panels built from scratch or did you use stock panels as a base. I have been thinking of some ideas for custom door panels.

Re: New Project: 1974 2WD Shortbed
These are made from scratch. I started with making a paper template based on the original size. Then transferred that to a piece of 3/4 inch MDF. I am building up several layers of fiberglass on top of the MDF. I have a ways to go yet. Then I machined out a lot of the extra MDF from the backside. No reason for extra weight if I don't need it. The speaker pods are made up the same way. I am going to make custom grill covers for them.

Re: New Project: 1974 2WD Shortbed
...I cut a strip of 1/4inch plywood to form the top edge. It is really strong once I got a few layers of fiberglass overlaying the seam.

Re: New Project: 1974 2WD Shortbed
The armrest is also fiberglass over MDF. I have pics a few pages back that show how I did that.

Thanks. This is my first attempt to make door panels for something. We will see what I learn from it.
