Consensus on factory clock
What do you guys think of a factory mounted clock. I thought at one time it was super cool, now I hate it.

Re: Consensus on factory clock
i like em, just maybe the location isnt the best with the flow of the dash. its kinda like a big tach on a street demon, just kinda out there for all to see. plus i get worried when i attach mine someone will break-in just cuz the clock is like hey look at me!!!

Re: Consensus on factory clock
I like mine but it does take some getting use to. Most people think it is a tach. Once you get over drilling the hole in the dash everything else is all down hill.

Re: Consensus on factory clock
I pondered the big 65/66 clock and got the chance to buy a nos 61-64 clock and refinished it in the 66 cab fawn color to match. It stands out great on the center of the darker fawn 66 dash. Thought I had a picture but just of the clock after painting it with the steering wheel. I'll have to take a shot installed.

Re: Consensus on factory clock
I think it needs to be the same color as the dash. Then it would look like it belongs there. With it being black it looks like an ad on and stands out alot.

Re: Consensus on factory clock
Love mine and will have another in the other 63 soon!!
I get a lot of compliments on it. Most people have never seen a factory clock in a 50+ year old truck.

Re: Consensus on factory clock
It doesn't look like it belongs on the dash IMHO. Didn't they have clocks in the instrument panel of some? ...or is that an aftermarket add on?

Re: Consensus on factory clock
The only clocks available from the factory or dealer in 60-66 on the trucks was the top dash mount.

Re: Consensus on factory clock
I'm with you.
I know it is factory correct but it does look ugly. If you don't need all the factory options, this is the one I would leave in the box. |

Re: Consensus on factory clock
All that really matters is if YOU like it, which you said you hate it. Dont put it in and then change your mind, it will drive you nuts!!
If it were me, I would not put it in, then if for some reason I changed my mind latter, at least I have it to put it in. Another option would be to mag mount it for a while to actually see if you truly hate it.

Re: Consensus on factory clock
I really like my fawn painted 61-64 style clock. A little smaller and all metal like the rest of the cab ha ha.

Re: Consensus on factory clock
I like the clock and think you might like it better once the rest of the dash is assembled.

Re: Consensus on factory clock
The GMC clocks were in the right side of the instrument cluster where the tach is on the Chevy dash. I know because I have one in a 66 GMC parts truck out back. I'm guessing they are pretty rare, couldn't find a picture of one in the Web search. Hmm....maybe I need to pull it out and stash it away with all my A/C center vents and under dash butt trays. Joseph
