62 , generator to alternator
When I got my truck,it was 235,with factory generator. The six is gone and going back 350. How much trouble to change over to alternator. 3wire or1 wire. If 3 wire is easier, just keep voltage reg that would be great. Trying to think ahead as I'm stock piling parts right now just waiting on cooler weather.

Re: 62 , generator to alternator
I just put one of the kits from MadElectrical in my 68 weekend before last. Very detailed and allows you to put your parts where you want em, as opposed to a ready made kit that is one size fits all.

Re: 62 , generator to alternator
I don't think you could use the generator voltage regulator with an alternator so you would probably have to buy both.
Instead, I'd go with the three wire with built in regulator and if you have to buy the alternator anyway might as well get the newer CS130 over the 10si. Check out the Rockauto site and look one up for an 89 Pontiac Safari. It comes with a V belt type pulley. You would also need to get the connector for it. |

Re: 62 , generator to alternator
I guess my question is more about how to switch over. Wiring wise.

Re: 62 , generator to alternator
The following is the way I see it. If anything is erroneous please chime in and correct.
10 si #1 to light which is usually brown. #2 to output post or a place you want to sense voltage. Upgrade the output wire to #10 or 8. cs 130 has PLIS or PLFS connector. Ignore P and I/F. L to lamp, S to sense. Upgrade output wire to #8. Wires from generator to regulator can be taped off or removed. Regulator can be removed. |
