Can’t tell from that angle
You need to pull the drive gear out towards the read of the engine and check the gap between the top of one drive tooth to the valley between to of the flex plate teeth

Eric, the best way to check, is to use an 1/8th" Allen wrench, and put it between the starter shaft and the teeth on the flexplate, if there's anymore space than that Allen Wrench, shim it till it's exactly 1/8th".

Install the starter w/o shims first. If you start the truck and it ziiings, you need to add shims. My truck and El Camino didn't need shims.

i have no shims on it now. i was just wondering about it. the shaft on the starter looks very very close to the teeth on the flexplate

i cant turn the starter gear by hand without it hitting the flexplate. how can i fix this?
