69 chevy c10 short bed

Need all my buddy's on here advice. I just went through a nasty divorce. I still have the truck but she hurt me bad on my 401k . So I think it's time to say good bye to it.what I need help on is should I part it out or what. The truck is ready for the last of the little body work and paint. This was a frame off restoration every nut and bolt. Plus have a ton of new parts plus my 67- 68 look like band new buddy buckets blk white houndstooth. I may of put this in wrong section. But let me no what everyone thinks I am back in Columbus Ohio. Or pm me and we can talk everything on the frame is done and runs no rust. Thanks Doug

You're going to get pennies to the dollar on parting it out now.

If it really is that close to a finished product, I'd find a local maaco, etc that has a rep for doing decent work (we have one here that is actually pretty good) and let them finish the paint job. It will be somewhat cheap, and it will only be in paint jail a few days/week.

Maybe sell off some of the high dollar stuff (like the buddy buckets) and put a plain old bench seat back in it too.

Keep the truck and use it as therapy You may need. Look, you already took a beating so why keep that trend going? Keep it and think that right now it isn't eating anything so back burner it if you need to for a year and when you get the fever again it will be waiting and you will be that much ahead on a nice truck. OR you can use it right now like I said as therapy and it will give you something to do with the free time you now have. Jim

Sorry to hear, I agree with keeping it for therapy. I do understand the concept of saving for the future especially the 401k. I could have passed buying my 69, but working 2 jobs, paying on my daughters school, everyday bills ect.. I needed my time. It's therapy for me, just to wrench every so often. It does not need much but it's a fun work in progress. Good luck with your decision.

I agree woth HUGGER6933. Went through the same thing 10 years ago. Thought to sell my 72 chevy truck but I am glad I kept it . Was a great way to forget about my problems and focus on things that matter the "truck".
Still have it and probably will never sell it.

I got the impression that he wanted a clean break/move on.

I would take the $ from the sale and start memories with a new toy. The patina craze is hot, I'd take a trip out west (you're a free man now, travel!) and come home with a clean Texas/Arizona, etc truck with decent original paint, clear it (it will turn to a rust bucket in MI just from the humidity, even if stored inside) - or wax the crap out of it if the paint is actually good still, and do cool mods to it. Drop, LS, wheels, whatever, but don't take it completely apart, only do stuff to where it will only be down a month or two and enjoy.

Unless you are really in need of your 401 k money, don't sell your truck. There are many reasons to let it go but in my personal experience you tend to think the sky is falling right after the bid D. I sold one and really regretted it later and I kept one that wasn't quite done and I feel very lucky not to have let it go.

Time is a great healer but when your cool truck is gone it hurts even more over time!

That truck will appreciate more than some CD's in your 401K. 401K is a joke anyhow. Being over 70 years old I have to take so much out of it every year & the taxes are more then if I had paid them right along. It puts you in a higher bracket & you have to pay tax on the social security.

Sorry to hear what you going through. Way I look at it, keep your truck. Spending time working on that is good therapy. get it together, and sell it for more money if you choose.

I agree with everyone else--keep the truck, finish it, drive the crap out of it and enjoy it, and maybe even join a club. You'll be among folks that enjoy the same hobby as you do and you never know, the folks you meet may have a single friend or two. You will regret selling it and if you do sell and ever get the urge to buy another one, you'll have to start from scratch again. And, look on the bright side, if you finish it and then decide to sell, you'll get a lot more for it.
It's a win-win ......Just my 2 cents worth.

P.S. Sorry to hear about your divorce, it's a tough situation but I have to say, when it happened to me, it was the best thing that ever happened. It allowed me to meet the wife I have now!! Good luck with your decision and to you in the future.
