Re: Highest MSRP for a 67-72
Guess I should have read closer. Didn't realize it was an engine swap ( only one cup of coffee). Looked at the '72 options book and see where a houndstooth bucket wasn't available. Learned my one thing for the day!
Still a red flag truck to me. I wouldn't waste the time on verifying the mileage. Who would have engine swapped an original 45k mile k20? At least they changed the engine badging. My longhorn has 47k ( verified) and the one thing I've refused to touch is the engine. Other than changing the ochre paint to orange and the factory vinyl buckets to houndstooth, it still matches its spid. |

Re: Highest MSRP for a 67-72
Someone should link the thread to Chipflyer and ask if the SPID is one that he made. Haven't seen Jeff on here in a while, not sure if he is still making them.

Re: Highest MSRP for a 67-72
There are a number of vendors out there that will print up a bogus window sticker for almost anyone. This is an example of their fine work.

Re: Highest MSRP for a 67-72
He shows a copy of what is supposed to be an original Scheduled Price Sheet.
But why would it have the 3 dealer added accessories, tape player, undercoating & Warn Locking Hubs. That would have been on a separate dealers list sheet Also he kind of makes it sound as over the years the truck has had just a repaint, but dont you pretty much have to take off the front clip to change the engine call out emblems to the 400 emblems |

Re: Highest MSRP for a 67-72
kinda funny, we all dream about finding a truck just like this one, then, when we do, we just can't believe it could ever exist because it'd be too good to be true! Ha, I'm very guilty of this. It is a beautifully done truck - not a hack job of an "I want to sell it as a Super so I can make a few extra $ off a shmo" type. It's virtually impossible to tell if it was turned into a Super from some other trim level with repro SPID and window sticker made to match the seller's idea of a dream truck, or if it's the real deal. Look at it this way, if it is a "fake" truck, the seller knows his stuff - he knew enough to leave the 350 on the SPID because the 402 was not available on the Ks. Or, like I said, it is the real deal and has had a very nice resto done to it. But, in the end, these are trucks, not Yenkos, so I'm not against building one like you like it. The 350 on the SPID and the seller's mention of the swap - and the condition of the SPID, lead me to think it's the real deal and was redone well. But, it's so nice, that even if it is a recreation of a dream truck with ordered to match SPID and window sticker, it's so well done that it doesn't matter. How many of us WISH GM put big blocks in Ks?? If this is your dream truck, I wouldn't get too hung up on the originality (or not) - in the end, you'd have a wonderful truck if you bought it. Don't get me wrong, if the reserve is hovering somewhere in the 30's because of it's option loadout, then a bit more investigation might be warranted. But it's a beautiful truck. I asked the seller for a SPID about a week ago, he shared it readily, and also added it to the ebay ad. All I can say is picture this beauty with original white steelies and PO3s. Stunning! Hope he sells it and the new owner loves it. Also, consider this - if he were building a "dream truck" with well-faked documents, I'm sure he'd have added Z81 Custom Camper in the process. Oh way, that would be MY dream truck...! Oh, forgot to mention - I wouldn't pay ANY attn. to a window sticker, they can be remade easily. They're a nice addition to a show truck that is fully resto'ed, but the SPID is more telling. And this one is in great condition, yet doesn't look brand new. Correct font, which is rare, unless chip does it. Either way, gorgeous truck.

Re: Highest MSRP for a 67-72
I always assumed the reason that they're so few loaded K20's was that most 3/4 ton 4x4 buyers just wanted a HD truck without the fluff but, if that list price is correct the price of a loaded K20 maybe the reason so few we're produced

Re: Highest MSRP for a 67-72
Boy nice trucks good find. But the real finds where back in 2004-2008.
Any of you haul junk metal.I know a lot of you recycle.Back in this time I saw trucks like this one camaro's nova's big block car's head to the scrap yards. The true collector car's. It really did not pick up stem until 2006 when i saw scrap yards offer 750.00 a ton for tin. If your truck was sitting in the back of a house all rusty and flat tires and where this truck was found had a nasty code enforcement out wondering the back roads You might of never found it or got your hands on it. Funny thing is.I've been in the salvage business form 1995 I remember these trucks going for like 1000.00 all day long camaro's with a bad eng in them 300-500 for a 1967-73 RS or SS car's Chevelles with big blocks dime a dozen 1995-1999 these trucks did not have much call for them and Re-pop parts ya right. But the barn finds are about over NOW GREED set in Remember cancer is the main thing to watch out for.If guys say it take very little work to remove cancer. Here on the west coast its 150.00 to 200.00 a hour to do body work on old car's. So when you find a real cherry of a pick up with hardly any cancer its worth every penny. the ones i see with make shift patch panels nothing lines up to me not worth any thing. Guys are selling trucks with at least 25 hours of body work to be done on these trucks and still asking 8900.00. But gain this is a true nice truck worth every bit of 60,000 |

Re: Highest MSRP for a 67-72
Thought about this old thread when I saw this well optioned K20 suburban, $7109. It isn’t exactly “loaded”, but I really like it

Re: Highest MSRP for a 67-72
That K20 post 19 is NICE.
Looks like they pre-sagged the side moldings, so they're level when the cab mounts give out

Re: Highest MSRP for a 67-72
Not about the original invoice, but that Suburban is missing some Custom Deluxe trim. They ordered it pretty well loaded but no radio. They added their own with antenna installed on driver side.

Re: Highest MSRP for a 67-72
I thought it seemed like it had a lot of options, but after I looked at the pics again I realized it didn’t have any trim, chrome caps or bumpers. Also missing the valuable hooks! Has the trim been removed?

Re: Highest MSRP for a 67-72
Yes. Custom Deluxe was top of the line Suburban. I'm not sure, but I think Suburban Custom Deluxes got chrome bumpers and hubcaps. I don't think there ever were painted hubcaps for 4wds

Re: Highest MSRP for a 67-72
'67-'72, not a truck, but I saw a '71 Malibu that, if it didn't have an option, it was superseded by another one. It was a white/white/white convertible with sport stripes, 350/350, front bucket seats with a console and tilt wheel, bumper guards, F41 suspension, and the list goes on. The sticker was ~$5500, which was more than I saw even on the big block 454 SS Chevelles. It wasn't even an SS, IIRC.
I worked at that dealership at the time, and I wanted a Nova like that but with an LT-1 engine as an option. The sales manager wouldn't go for it. Imagine a Nova that had everything a Z-28 had that year but wasn't a Camaro. A man can dream! It would have been more fun than an RPO 396 Nova!

Re: Highest MSRP for a 67-72
In Oct. of 1968, I bought a new 69 1/2 ton with a 8' box with nothing but a heater and a dealer installed rear step bumper for $2160.00 out the door. She was pretty basic, but worked great for me. He had several new 68's on the lot, but never asked about them. I sold it 3 years later for $1600.00.

Re: Highest MSRP for a 67-72
Custom deluxe suburbans were standard with white bumpers and no hub caps (3/4 tons anyway) no standard moldings either, trim was optional. Here was a one owner, original paint suburban I had a few years ago. I had the window sticker for this one also. This one was ordered with chrome hub caps

Re: Highest MSRP for a 67-72
Thanks for setting that straight, Joe. I wasn't sure about Suburbans because I always seen them with the chrome. So they are like the pickups, plus no side trim.
