Can't believe the debris
I pulled the bed off in pieces yesterday. Between the rust through in the side walls and the bed floor, I knew that the cross sills were full of dirt. What I didn't figure on was the amount of crap in the header panel. It's being replaced, but good grief.

I've often wondered how they get that rusty in there. It isn't like there is a direct channel for the water to get in. LockDoc

Re: Can't believe the debris
Have you done your rockers yet?
I didn't think that much dirt and rust would even fit in mine... My stepside header panel actually rusted from the inside out! I think water and moisture (even humidity) get trapped inside that panel and has nowhwere to go until the truck is driven.

Re: Can't believe the debris
This may be a good opportunity to mention - I found an earthworm in the inch and a half of dirt that had accumulated over 45 years under the front suspension subframe / support of my 1970 C10..

Re: Can't believe the debris
Hanta Virus anyone?
Here in the Central Coast of California we have something called Hantavirus in the soil - it comes from common rodent feces - so when you first open up your fresh air vent system of your latest acquisition you might wanna wear at least an N95 mask and pack a can of Lysol Hantavirus is not quite as bad as Ebola in that you don't bleed out from your eyes and other places - but since it still pretty much kills you full stop I'm not sure it matters so much in the end.. Heres a few photos of my exploration into my fresh air/heater system.. I think I found Mr. Mouse's skull and skeleton up in the space between my outer and inner roof skin; but I'll have to capture that video frame in another post.. |

Re: Can't believe the debris
Those are easy! Get 'er up to 65/70, roll the windows down, open vents.
Clean interior when done

Re: Can't believe the debris
Ha ha just did that. Opened the vent on the highway and it was like sitting in a snow dome.
