rain gutter/ seam sealer prep
After using a wire wheel to bring the roof gutter down to bare metal, if there are still a few tiny spots of rust I can see, should naval jelly or some type of other chemical be used before priming and using seam sealer?

green lane I see......Im about 10 miles from you near Norristown.
You should do your best to remove any visible rust. The problem you have is you can only go so far with the gutter before you break through to the underside. I removed my entire outer roof skin and purchased a donor roof because I had a roof and pillars that were gone beyond belief. Even after that I had some prep before sealing after I welded the replacement skin on |

Re: rain gutter/ seam sealer prep
I'd hit it with a rust converter such as rustmort and then prime as instructed..

Re: rain gutter/ seam sealer prep
Yep just down the road...
Getting my plans together for the winter before it hits. This roof is in good shape, very minimal rust. Just want to prep it as well as I can before I seal it up. I guess the only way to do it right is to pop the top off, but I was thinking that's a lot of work. Can't imagine most people take the roof off before painting.?? |

Re: rain gutter/ seam sealer prep
I took my roof off posts included and complete donor outer skin applied and new posts. Was so bad I had no choice unless I swapped cabs. I did get the chance at that point to insulate between......was a major job but the end result is a good one. I don't wish it on anyone.

yup...rust converter......If you look through the files here there are lot of opinions on the sealer......seam sealer. I used a product called silpruf scs2003
Its excellent for metal somewhat forgiving when applied and remains somewhat flexible. Also paints over well |

Re: rain gutter/ seam sealer prep
Si Senior. Just did mine and couldn't be happier. Just rained a ton yesterday and water just draining away as it should. Nice feeling. BTW, I used Lord Fusor 122EZ SELF-LEVELING SEALER, 10.1 OZ and was enough to do it all with about 20% left over.
