power steering

I used a reseal kit on my perfectly working but leaking steering gear, it never worked right after install. I had power steering one way but nothing the other. Today I took the pump apart to put a rebuild kit in it. When I took the reservoir off the pump I found two of the seals I had just put in the steering gear. I obviously screwed it up. Should I try again? or should I just buy a new steering gear?
