1979 front window channel
I am in the process of rebuilding my vent Windows. The last piece is to install window channel for the front of the main window. I bought them from Classic parts. The channel has a "u" type looking piece attached to one end. Do u know where this goes?
Thanka

Re: 1979 front window channel
I think you're talking about where it attaches to the inner door skin behind the door panel. Can you post a pic?

Re: 1979 front window channel
I am guessing it just pulls up and over the top of the vent window. I do not like the way this is going to fit. I think I may cut this off. Almost looks like these are a better fit for 67-72 trucks. Your thoughts?

Re: 1979 front window channel
If I remember correctly, I ran into the same issue with those little metal pieces when restoring Dad's 77. That was over 10+ years ago and I think we got the window channels from the local GM dealer. After noticing the difference (the originals didn't have those pieces), I think I looked up the part numbers and found that they also fit the rear doors in Suburbans & crew cabs. I figured that explained the presence of that extra piece and since it wasn't needed for the front doors I just cut them off.

Re: 1979 front window channel
Take a look at Precision Replacement Parts page PRP They have a link to several YouTube videos showing the install

Re: 1979 front window channel
I still can't tell what part you guys are talking about. Is it something unique to pre-81? I've only messed with 85 model vents.

Re: 1979 front window channel
Bruiser it's the little metal tab right at the end of the yellow arrow. Looks just like the tab you find on front door window channels.

Re: 1979 front window channel
Gotcha, I'm with you now. There should be a hole in the door shell that lines up with that tab so you can put a screw there and secure the top of the vent to the door.

Re: 1979 front window channel
I looked all over youtube for a video. With no luck at least with felt with the tab on top. All the weather stripping I bought was precision except these pieces. I just removed those clips. Not matter what I did I was not happy with the connection at the top. I know they will be OK without the clip Was really hoping to get the glass installed tonight but I think I worked too late last night and upset the wife.

Re: 1979 front window channel
I found the precision video. I did this this one before. Their channels are different. No tab
