'70 grille decals
Hi guys !
i'm looking for black vinyl decals to stamp on the grille of my 70 C10. Found some on ebay or elsewere, but shipping cost is prohibitive to France (50 bucks for a 10 bucks part) ! Does anybody have an idea of the type of the police, so i can try to do it myself with a plotter. If you have another idea (a website who can send it as a letter for example) thanks a lot ! |

Hey that's pretty cool I didn't know they exist. Wouldn't mind getting one for my 70 as well.

Re: '70 grille decals
Mine turned out great. Classic truck parts or LMC is where I got mine. I'm sure most parts stores will carry them.

Re: '70 grille decals
Howdy and welcome from Texas!
May be a long shot but, I would email the eBay seller and explain your situation and ask if shipping them to you as a letter is an option. You may be surprised by how many sellers will bend over backwards in order to build/keep a five star customer satisfaction rating. Just a thought. For what it's worth, I bought the LMC decals for a '70 grill and I was not happy with how they looked. Best I remember, (it was a long time ago) the letter E and R didn't fit right. Another option: how good are you with a wall brush and some modeling paint? Best of luck to you and keep us posted.

i'm not very good with a wall brush, but i'll try to "copy" the leters with a kind of tracing paper (easy because the letters are embossed) and paste it on a black vinyl sheet, and cut it with a pair of scissors or a cutter blade. if i know the exact font type ( i said "police" in my post, i'm sorry, it's the french word for "font", one of the funny things of french language ) it's gonna be easier ! |

The black stripes are pretty easy to paint. I taped mine out and painted them in with spray paint. The letters I did the vinyl, got them from Classic Parts. They fit ok, until you get real close. Painting them would be better, or if you are good at it or know somebody make your own vinyl.

Re: '70 grille decals
It sounds like you have a GM grille with embossed letters rather than the reproduction grille which does not have the letters.
I painted my 69 grille as follows: - Degrease the grille - Apply masking tape over the entire center bar. - Work the tape into all the recessed areas and into all the bends and corners forming the letters and horizontal grooves. I used my fingernails being careful not to tear the tape. A small piece of slightly pointed wood would also work in place of your fingernails - Use an exacto/hobby knife to cut the letters around the bends forming the letters and grooves. - Remove the tape from the areas you want painted. - Spray the entire masked area with satin black paint. - Remove the rest of the tape when the paint is dry. It's easier than it sounds. This was the result. |

For the black lines I cleaned it up then taped it off and spray painted. The vinyl decals are easy. You just use soapy water and slide them around to how you want. Then you hold it in place and push all of the air bubbles out and let the letter dry. I found that tweezers work well.

Re: '70 grille decals
Hi guys !
it's done ! i made a mix of your tips, and post pics, because it's easier for me and my bad english ! [IMG][/IMG] first step : apply paint protection tape and draw the letter inside [IMG][/IMG] then remove the tape from the grille, paste it on the black vinyl decal, cut (scisssors or a surgeon blade) and remove the tape, the letter is ready to be pasted on the grille [IMG][/IMG] Looks good (if you're not too close !) it's not a hard work, it took me less than one hour from the beginning to the end |

Re: '70 grille decals
That looks great!
Plus it's more rewarding and fun to do projects yourself rather than spend 50 bucks for shipping. Thanks for the update and pics.
