One thing I did manage to do a couple of weeks ago was sell my oldest Land Rover, the 79 Lightweight. So that cleared space and I got a good price for it so thats raised C10 funds.

It was better than Christmas!

I thought about leaving it all till the weekend but I couldn't help myself. Still got the two biggest boxes to empty but I know what they have in them, 2 side panels for the bed and a tail gate.

I cant say it was a big surprise Rian. Yes it was worse than I thought but with time and effort some of the panels could have been saved, but you know what, Im not getting any younger and I really dont want to spend the next 15 years rebuilding the truck (Its taken 18 so far on the Morris and I still aint finished - though 3 Land Rovers have been done in that time as well).

I wont be ditching anything that can be saved though. I will either keep for spares or will sell them on to someone with the time to salvage them.

Anyway, a few more pics for now. Hopefully I will get some better shots at the weekend when I can clear the remaining boxes out the way.

In amongst this lot are

2 front fenders, the above mentioned bed sides and tailgate plus a bed front, front and rear bumpers, sliding rear glass, outer rockers, inner rockers, floor panels, bed supports, etc





Various rubber parts (being stored in my mobile shed, as manufactured by Morris Motors)



Some nice packaging though a right bugger to get open!



Ive also got coming a 78 front axle, 76 rear 12 bolt, steel wheels (just to keep it running as these are 5 lug where the ones fitted to my truck at 6 lug) , power steering box and second hand hood, rear fenders and rear steps.

I need the Morris finished so I cant get started on the C10!!!!!

How I got her and just a taste of the condition











The rest was the same. All the floors inner fenders, rockers, spring hangers, trunk bottom and outer, entire engine bay was all replaced. Took 2 years of cutting and welding. 15kg of MIG wire and heaven knows how much Argon, but this is what she looks like now









She still isnt quite finished but the end is in site, maybe as little as 4 weeks away.

At one point I did consider dropping in a 350 SBC but Im glad I decided to stick with the 948cc A serise (it sounds correct for the wee car - as you can hear in the video):-



Not quite a V8. Barely one cylinder to be honest, but its as it should be.

Brings back fond memories of tooling around Terciera Acores in a 54 Morris that was probably in similar shape had I chosen to investigate. She never failed to start and was a blast to drive considering top speed allowed at that time was 60kph...

Hindsight being 20/20, I wish I would've brought her back to the states…the only real difference between that one and yours, is that one was left hand drive...

Decided to take some of the panels out the inner boxes tonight. I was waiting for paint to dry on the bumpers for the Morris anyway so it seemed like a good idea.

First to open was the bed tailgate and front panel





Definitely not as heavy but good quality.

Unfortunately it started to go a bit south from there.

Opened the front fenders next. Not a very good fit



Thats a rather large gap.



And thats not a very even gap.

At first glance the grill support looked good



But I really didnt expect wrinkles in the steel





The rear bumper is really good and heavy duty, but the front is a lot thinner than the original. May consider reusing the original after a little heating and hammering.

Dont get me wrong, I didnt expect repro panels to be exact. They are not exact over here either (the Morris was a good example of that) but I am a little disappointed in the grill support panel at least.

However there is nothing I cant fix. The grill support will be fixed with a little hammer work and some filler and I can drill out the spot-welds on the wings and re position the parts to get the correct gaps. Still easier than repairing what I had. And anyway life would be too easy without a few challenges!

The weather does not seem to want to play ball at the moment.

I am doing various little jobs that I can "pack away" once they are done, till it is time to reassemble.

I do not know if it was clear from my previous rant, just how lacking the chrome and finish was on the 67-72 rear bumper I had bought for he truck.

One of the problems with this sort of low rent and shoddy finish, is that one then needs to spend time and money to prevent it from self destructing in a years time.

So I bought two cans of RustOleum Zinc spray, and a can of Aluminium finish spray paint.

Looking at the difference in thickness and quality between the front and rear bumpers I have bought, it is pretty obvious which is the rear one.



Masking up took the most time, but we know preparation is what it is all about.





Not exactly pretty, but once the silver is on there as well, I will be happy that they have a fighting chance against wet and road grime in years to come.

Why? It was indoors in the garage.



Just back from the garage.

I bought a tin of "Aluminium" coloured paint, wanting the silveriest paint I could get to go over the Zinc paint.

Well, sprays less than it splatters, paint stopped coming out of nozzle halfway through the job, so half a can of paint I cannot get out, going back to the shop to return it tomorrow, and maybe buy some silver paint for the rear bumper.

I really am just adding the silver paint to the rears to match the chrome as the zinc is more dull and grey like primer.

So this was the result, fine for what it is, but not as good as I expected or want.



Came home tonight and repainted the front bumper and painted the rear one as well.
Both got two coats of paint with an extra pass or two over the bolt holes.

I am now quite happy that these will survive for a while, and not look like throne I took off, too soon.

Well its not a C10 but it is a BIG step closer to me getting started on my C10



Very little to do now. Hope to get it ready for if not through its MOT this holiday weekend. Then its Chevy time!

Took the Moggie for its MOT last Friday but it failed (Only just) Got its retest in an hour - fingers crossed!

So now its almost finished Im making a start on the truck.

Went over to Grangemouth to collect the hood, rear fenders and steps at the weekend.







The fenders are not quite as good as Id hoped but they are perfectly salvageable. The hood is in great condition. No damage and only slight surface rust.

Unfortunately the front and rear axles were not on the same shipping but they are due in next weekend or 2 weeks from there.

So last night I made a small start stripping the trick so I can get the cab off and into the garage.

Not a big start but a start none the less.

All I can say is that, like many of us, the truck is clearly fighting you. And in so doing you are correcting 50+ years of everyone else saying "that will just have to do"

I hope that my truck will be free of all the bodges and vices I have found to date, and I have not even started on the body......

Cheers Rian. Thats it dropped in for it retest. The only thing it failed on was an imbalance on the rear brakes.Hopefully my efforts last weekend will have sorted that.

As for the truck it has been bodged but not in "the normal way" ie its not been bodged to pass an inspection. Its been bodged in regards to the "hotrod work" thats been done or rather attempted. So basically I do have a fairly clean canvas to start with.

I didnt have to buy new panels for everywhere. In time I could have fixed up what I have but I dont want to be doing this truck in 18 years time. I want it finished and on the road so we can enjoy it. So while its been quite an expense I think its worth it and I can justify it as my 50th to myself! (at least thats what I keep telling the wife!).

Got to say that so far every bolt has come out with no difficulties. Only the bed or rather what was left of it gave me any issues.

Anyway Ive not got much left to do elsewhere thats stopping me going at this fulltime. Hopefully there will be loads more progress reports.

I'll let you know how I get on with the moggie later!

Good result with the bonnet Bill (sorry hood). Of everything I have had to source for my truck, the hood was definately the thing that caused the most hassle (but they are huge!). It's all downhill from here

I think I was really fortunate with that hood Ian (Bonnet isnt that something you wear on your head? - since I started this I keep betting my hood and bonnet and wing and fenders mixed up everywhere).

Its actually in excellent condition and considering the size and distance it had to come I dont think it was a bad deal at all. I think the hood was $400, the fenders were $75 each and the steps $50 each. $250 got it to the docks and I got shipping to the UK for free as thats the deal the guy I got the C10 does ie you buy a car your first parts are shipped FOC (He is charging me £300 for the front clip, 12 bolt rear end and 4 wheels which when you consider the weight and bulk I dont think is excessive).

Just waiting on the axles to arrive then I need to start thinking about placing another order for parts.

Its certainly all down hill from here for my bank account!

No reason now not to stick it in my lockup and get the Chevy into the garage!

Finally made some serious progress yesterday. Got the cab and body split.





The cab is now safely in the garage but it is very tight for space, so some internal re distribution is now necessary. Hopefully I will get that finished this week and who knows I may get the plasma cutter and MIG out this weekend.
