Re: Gauging interest in 1972 extreme bend tow hooks
Sorry guys. The gentlemen that runs the foundry that was going to supply these for me went online and did some research. He used the casting number that were on the set I gave him (molds for the new ones) to figure out what they are selling for online and ultimately doubled the price on me. I explained to him that I can't ask OEM prices for re-pops. Long story short, if I could break even, I would go ahead with it but with what he's going to charge me up front, there's no way I can do this.
Sorry guy! Jason

Re: Gauging interest in 1972 extreme bend tow hooks
I can't believe nobody is reproducing these. I got pretty excited at the prospect of getting a set at a decent price. Greedy people suck!!! Thanks for the effort in trying to get them done!

Re: Gauging interest in 1972 extreme bend tow hooks
Just came across this thread.
I've been in the works as well on a high quality, reliable functioning reproductions too. I have several 72 models, hence my user name, and was going to reproduce some just for myself. Just to even think about kicking this off I am looking at close to $2500 and that is with no orders. We are currently working out the logistics and are hoping to finalize something that both drivers and builders would both be proud to display on their '72s also. I have two available finishes in the works as well. Powder coated black, and chrome, which is what I'm excited about. I can almost imagine those sweet looking hooks dropped down below the chrome bumper and there is a set of matching chrome hooks to grab the eyes. Just curios c3vette, what was you eastern location foundry going to charge you for your kick off, with zero orders? |

Re: Gauging interest in 1972 extreme bend tow hooks
We have no one to blame for the price gouging but ourselves. Its the 67-72 Chevy truck enthusiasts that created the extreme bend tow hook mania and resulting insane OEM prices that the foundry used as a basis for his cost. Can't blame the foundry for trying to get in on the action.

Re: Gauging interest in 1972 extreme bend tow hooks
He will probably go ahead and make them anyways, and just sell them himself.

Re: Gauging interest in 1972 extreme bend tow hooks
Does anyone on here know what the original tow hooks would have been rated at? I can't find anything that tells what the rating specs would have been. I know it would have been something crazy in terms of what is produced these days. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Gauging interest in 1972 extreme bend tow hooks
Yes, rustyk5 now has the rights to the 72 extreme bend hooks. There is another guy that has 67-71 non extreme bends that should be available this spring for sale.
