Re: 70 Fleetside Bed Questions

grind the welds off, replace sill and reweld it, may be hard to get some of the bolts off, spray with rust penetrant,I will spray all of the bolts, wait a day spray again and maybe one more time before I try and get the nuts off the bolts,I have had good success doing this...

Re: 70 Fleetside Bed Questions

Thanks for that info, however, It appears that I will have to remove the bed as the the rear sill mounts on top of the frame? Wont drop down..... Oh and the bolts are gonna have to be cut off. The nuts are partially rusted away

Smile Re: 70 Fleetside Bed Questions

i used a 4x4 with an eye bolt in the center of the wood across the inside of the bed and a cherry picker, it might take a couple of tries to get it centered in the bed then lift it up and roll the truck out, piece of cake!!!!! i swapped 3 beds one morning that way and still made it to a BBQ by lunch.

Re: 70 Fleetside Bed Questions

Well, got the bed off. Wasn't too bad removing it by myself. Thanks for all the input and info! I do have a question about what I found on the front bulkhead on the bed . There are some numbers and a couple letters on it, T T 376 25/04 (see pic). Should I leave that or is it nothing? Also, there are numbers on the top of the firewall .....Does anyone know where i could get matching yellow spray paint in a can for some touch up or best to get mixed and spray with gun?

Re: 70 Fleetside Bed Questions

Denny, this thread will give you some insight on those markings.

The 376 is most likely the job number. No idea on the 25/04 or the T T. That's very interesting to see, especially from a Oshawa truck. What does the firewall say? Can't read it in the pic.
