Wilwood Rear Disc Conversion

Looking at buying the 2 piston rear kit for my 76. My question is will any other brand rotor work with that kit or am I stuck buying Wilwood rotors. Will 92-02 Chevy Astro AWD front rotors work? Or anything beside Wilwood. I know it comes with a rotor. But I want to know if I have a option of using something different.

Hmm. No I haven't yet. The reason I looked at them is because of the matching front calipers that would match the rear. I don't want to do a big brake upgrade. I need to replace my front calipers and want to do the rear conversion. But I want calipers matching front and back. Plus the rotors matching. Lol. If it does not match it will drive me crazy lol and I just won't do it. Any other suggestions?

Re: Wilwood Rear Disc Conversion

I am assuming that Wilwood and others on the market must be using a rotor off of another model. I just don't see them making a special rotor for 1 specific kit. But I might be wrong.

Re: Wilwood Rear Disc Conversion

Most states require the ebrake to be there and working. May want to check that.

Year, make and model of other vehicles doesnt really matter. The only thing that matters is the correct rotor diameter and the correct rotor thickness. You can use any rotor that meets those specs. NO you shouldnt have to use Wilwood rotors with their calipers. Just make sure that you shim it per their specs for whatever you use. Shimming it centers the caliper on the rotor so that you get equal pad wear. This is ciritical with any application.

Enjoy!

Re: Wilwood Rear Disc Conversion

One other thing about Wilwood calipers is you need adapters for the brake line connection, they are a different thread than just your reg flared end. Its good to use flex lines anyway to all calipers and not just a hard line connection.

Re: Wilwood Rear Disc Conversion

Or maybe if I can find a front rotor that matches the Wilwood rotor exactly that might be easier. Same pattern with the slots and drilled holes. I just don't want my rotors to be different and look ghetto. Lmao.
