That new motor sounds good. Anxious to see it in there. I agree completely on an open fendered rat, I saved the 350 that came with my truck for one.

Re: Randy & Jakes 64 4x4 SLOW build
Now where did my engine go...
here it is on the ground.. she's sittin up alittle higher... I measured the six from end of block to end of fan and it measured 36". and measured the v-8 and it measured 34",so the six was a little longer..I got a lot done today I wanted to work on it over the weekend but the weather was crappy, So I took the day off today and started on it around 1:00 today and stopped on it around 5:00. So I'll be able to work on it in the evenings after work and were off on Friday so hopefully I'll have her going by the weekend...

Re: Randy & Jakes 64 4x4 SLOW build

Re: Randy & Jakes 64 4x4 SLOW build
well guys she's sitting pretty,I had to take the valve covers off to get that big ole engine to clear..
I had to really wrestle that thing in there by myself what a job but I got in there..And I am going to have to do some firewall work as it's too tight for valve covers... And not only that the clutch is a no go because one of the header tubes is right smack dab in the middle of the way so I guess I'm going to have to go a hydraulic clutch setup.. I went on ahead and pulled just the front sheetmetal so I wouldn't have to lift that engine up so high to clear..It doesn't look like it sagged the front end no more than the six banger...I just have to bolt everything up and start on the firewall clearance I'm hopeing I can do this from the inside with a plasma cutter.. But in the end it will be worth it can't wait to here it run again....

Re: Randy & Jakes 64 4x4 SLOW build
Your progress looks great! I had the same problem with clearance for the valve covers and the firewall. I am running a 406 small block but I added tall valve covers between the time I mocked everything up and painted the cab. With my fresh paint I did not want to remodel the firewall for clearance. I found a 1" body lift provided the necessary clearance for my valve covers. This maybe another option for you.

Re: Randy & Jakes 64 4x4 SLOW build
well I got out there this evening after work and began cutting the firewall to make room for that MASSIVE ENGINE valve covers...driver side wasn't too bad. Here's the inside driver
passenger inside the passenger side required alot more to get the VC to clear guess cause that's the way the firewall was made. My goal was to get these cut out so I could mount the VC's back on so it will have some protection cause I still have the hood off, I have it covered with a tarp but you know how they are...anywho my power steering brackets came in yesterday as well did the water pump pulley billet aluminum. Hopefully tomorrow I can start bolting everything down..then put the headers on and concentrate on getting that bad boy fired back up..then I can work something out with a hydraulic clutch setup and make some boxes on the inside to cover up the vc's...one thing at a time, I have plenty to keep me busy....

Re: Randy & Jakes 64 4x4 SLOW build
Oh my I had to go to the emergency room this evening, I went to the DR. to see if they could remove the smile off my face, Woo-Wee I got my headers on there and what a pain but there on there now, and got that beast running I couldn't let it run very long still have to put on power steering pump and pulley and belts, so tomorrow after work I'll get the ps mounted and fan and the radiator. still got to get the clutch worked out oh well alittle at a time....Next time I fire that beast up I'll deffinately get a video of it running....
