Re: Glide-out spare tire carrier

Glide out carriers are as rare as ivory billed woodpeckers. Expect to pay at least $150-$350 for one if you find it. They sometimes show up on Ebay.

This is what he is looking for. Normally the Scottsdale trim level would not have came with these as it was relatively expensive compared to the basic one.

Re: Glide-out spare tire carrier

Apparently, my truck was ordered with an oddball assortment of options.Power windows, no power door locks, cruise control but no tilt column, 4.3 v6 and my6 trans. There was a glide out spare carrier that I removed to put the duals on, maybe that was an afterthought on the po.Mine doesnt look as good as the pics but Im sure its all there.I didnt like it as I could see the spare too much.I think the truck has an odd rear bumper, nothing like Ive seen on these year trucks.Chrome and shaped like a vee sorta.I'll post pics when I figure out how.Im using a tablet now. Re: Glide-out spare tire carrier

They could have been ordered on anything. Maybe the original owner had a very particular reason to have it. I love them and they make life a lot easier for sure. Any sort of spare tire carrier is super hard to come by here in Phoenix. My theory it is so hot no one ever has the energy/ambition to put the tires back under the trucks after they have a flat. After so long of them banging around making noise, I guess they just pull them off an get rid of them. It is nice you have all of the parts. So many have the triangular hangers welded on due to the addition of a receive hitch or they were riveted on from the factory.

Re: Glide-out spare tire carrier

You pull the handle and unhook the hook. The spare tire slides out from under the truck.

I think I came across one of these things. However, where is the triangular hanger mounted? Is the triangular part necessary?

Re: Glide-out spare tire carrier

I should say that the truck is an 87 and noticed that a vendor lists the triangular parts and it states "Except 87-91" trucks.

http://www.dansclassic.com/product.c...D1%26dnum%3D24

Does that mean that the triangular pieces were not used on 87-91 trucks? Are the glide out units the same on 73-87 square body trucks?

Grabbed it already. If I recall, it appeared that the bolts were mounted to the frame. I just don't recall seeing the triangular piece.

Went to the yard and grabbed the triangular part as well. I don't know why I thought the carrier was actually hanging from the right frame rail.

Re: Glide-out spare tire carrier

Here's a picture. I didn't realize that the triangular piece was a separate piece when I grabbed the Spare tire carrier. I have been going to JY on a regular basis and have only seen only one other glide out tire carriers and thought it looked strange and not stock so I passed on it. This time around, I thought to do some research on it. Seems like something functional.

Re: Glide-out spare tire carrier

I found another one this weekend and listed the item on ebay under item 262461200187. Mention this site and I will sell it to you for $130 + ship -- it is not complete and has some damage.
