installing flat bed?
I have a flatbed to put on my C30 frame and was wondering how to mount it. It has 2 heavy support rails runnig the length of the bed that are the same width as the frame. If I bought regular bed cross sills and bolted them through the regular bed mounts on the frame, would they be heavy enough to support the bed? I know the sills will extend much farther than I need but I was thinking of making a too box from 1/8" flat steel to hang from them.

Yes, they should be heavy enough, as they are too carry no more weight than the original bed was intended for .3/4 ton is 3/4 ton no matter the bed design. I have seen the brackets made of flat bar or channel iron usually though, and that is just to tie the bed frame to the truck frame.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but here's another flatbed question.
I'm about to start work on the flatbed for the wife's truck, assuming that the rear axle was bottomed out against the bump stops and that I'm running 15" wheels I should have 3" between the top of the tire and the bottom of the bed, does this sound like enough? Ron

I have a flat bed for sell if anybody is interested. It came off of a 71 and has a stainless deck. I have it off the truck and can post picks of how it was mounted if you want.

This is how mine sits. It hasn't been bolted down and in this pic it's just shimmed with some wood to get the right rake. From the top of the tire to the bottom of the flatbed is 4.5". That is with brand new shocks and new variable rated coils on the back

Would it not be easier to place the bed how you want it to sit and fab some brackets out of angle down to the frame?

Jims70Gmc and Dubie do you have pics of your mounting. Right now I have a 4X4 with a couple of other pieces of wood across the frame rails to get it to look right on the frame.

3 rear of bed you can see the channel a little better. this bed was meant to tilt, although it was never finished. In the first pic you can see the piviot point.
