Rear brake lamps not working what to check?

I have a 69 I just purchased. I got the lights to work but no brake lamps. The turn signal switch I can see is broken but not sure if connected to the problem. Need that replaced before dealing with turn signals for sure. Trucks steering column came out of a 67. Looks like some things have been going on at the brake switch wiring. Bulbs look good. How do I do some checking to get to the bottom of it.

I think you'll want to narrow some stuff down before we go about listing all of the possible things that COULD go wrong. You need to list what you've checked, what you know, what you've ruled out. More than just the presence of bulbs.

Like... how many ohms from bulb socket to ground?
What's the voltage at the harness when the brake pedal is pressed?
Does the brake light switch look like its functioning?
Do park lights work? You said "lights" but I'm not sure if you had rear park lights.

Definitely replace the turn signal switch, its involved.
