Stepside tailight ideas

I have searched the forum back to 2002 for stepside taillight ideas and didn't see anything that I liked. I don't really like the Cadillac light in the stake pockets. I don't have a roll pan either. Any pictures or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Mike

I'm using the 55-59 taillights also . Don't cut holes in your fenders to mount taillights you'll wish you didn't later on .

Re: Stepside tailight ideas

Has anyone used Nova taillights? I was thinking going across the bottom of the fenders but above the bumper. I think they are as wide as the fender.

Re: Stepside tailight ideas

Check out what Bruce88 did with his stepside taillights - I thought his came out nice..

I don't have the exact page of his 39 page build thread where he shows all the photos of his process but I think it is worth a search - even if you don't end up doing it exactly that way other aspects of what I think of as aircraft quality work should be helpful.

Here is the first page - I think it was in the last third of the pages or so..

Re: Stepside tailight ideas

Nothing about the Stepside bed says "built-in", it's a very utilitarian design. So, I don't mess with trying to streamline the lights. They look right hanging there and the best thing to do for a custom touch is use smaller and mount them tighter/lower. Take what's there and make it look cleaner/tighter. I see people use Model A lights, but I prefer the 40-53 GM lights. The 30s lights have a Chevrolet script on them and are a really cool little detail.

Re: Stepside tailight ideas

i see nothing wrong with the originals.

led's make a cool mod. if ya could build them your self you could lay the led's out in any pattern you like.

i thought about making bowties behind the lenses when i get it more finished.
i have a crate full of stepper lites to try it out then.

Re: Stepside tailight ideas

What about taillights in a rear rollpan? I am using a hidden latch so there are no chains hanging down so maybe stock would look ok. It is just one of those things that I will know it when I see it. I have looked at more tailights than even exist !!!

Check out Chevy HHR taillights. You can even buy them with LEDs and a smoked lens from different online sources.

Motorcycle tail lights on ebay can make for some cool custom ideas.

Re: Stepside tailight ideas

I'm going with the 55-59 led lamps too. It's cleaner than factory and it fits better too in my opinion. However if I had a square I really like how David Freiburger mounted those rectangular flat bed lights in the stock location on the muscle truck. It looks right for a square. Im assuming he did it because I haven't seen a lot of square step sides since I'm a 67-72 guy, but it's a good look for that truck.

I'm with Special K. I used the reverse bracket and picked up some trailer lights from the local Orilley's.

I used these on my truck, I liked the flush look, plus I didn't care for knocking off the original ones more then once.
