Installing paint divider trim

Has anyone come up with a good way for installing the paint divider trim on cabs that didn't initially have it, so therefore it doesn't have those little studs for the clips?

I tried using small pieces of that double face molding tape, but there is not enough surface area on the clip itself to hold firmly (stuck fine to the cab though)

A last resort I guess will be finding some tiny screws, but didn't want to have holes unless absolutely necessary. I thought maybe use an epoxy to glue the clips to the cab?

I think you would have to make some flat pieces that would fit inside the trim so the double faced tape would have something more to stick to. There are aftermarket screw in studs available for the trim, any parts vendor should have them.

There is a "good way" and is the same the factory used as a repair, tiny sheetmetal screws. Or as an alternative, like I've used often as a trimmer, pop rivets. The screws and clips are often packaged and sold as kits just for retrofits like this. Of course there is also the alternative of welding the studs on with a stud gun prior to finishing as well.

You can check with a body shop for sources. They aren't used anymore but some body shop parts suppliers might be able to suggest a source.
I have seen a source mentioned on these boards but cannot remember who. It's very possible lmc might list them.
The new pieces came with a small screw with thread sealer on them so no stud necessary.

Thanks for the info. I never even thought about pop rivets. I wanted to avoid holes, but at this point, I guess it doesn't matter. I checked home depot for some small screws, but couldn't find anything that would work. I never received any screws with my repop trim, just the trim and clips. I may just order those ones from the link above. I may first try doubling up the molding adhesive tape and not use the clips. Oh, and I'm down to 11 clips now. Somehow one of them magically disappeared on my garage floor

Used to add a lot of vinyl tops and the aftermarket trim was just lengths you would cut to size and form fit. Blow the holes and pop rivet the clips down. A dip of sealant made a nice seal as it pulled into place.

If you really want to try sticky tape, first lay the clips out flat and epoxy fill just the screw hole. The big hole is your spring for the clip. Then you will have at least a fair amount of surface area. I'd suggest doubling the number of clips though to favor success as well. Make sure to tweak the trim to fit without preload when dry fitting to the cab over painter's masking tape.
