Gaskets for a C20/K10?
My 70 CustomCamper/20 really has a 350-SM465-NP205. I have a growing puddle of oil under it. It seems to be mostly dripping off the cross member/transfer case mount. Oil is engine oil (vs gear oil).
Trying to determine where the heck the oil is coming from. Do the transmission and transfer case use gear oil? I am thinking the rear main seal is leaking but not 100% sure. In trying to "fix" easy things first, like valve cover gaskets and oil pan gaskets, what should i replace them with? Thanks non-leaking Chevy Fans! |

Trans and transfer use gear oil. First thing to do is clean the area good and follow the oil trail after.

Re: Gaskets for a C20/K10?
Many an "under engine" oil leak, turns out to be a valve cover gasket or a rear manifold valley seal, and the oil trickles down to the rear main seal area behind the pan and between the engine and transmission.

also oil pressure guage tubes that go to the oil guage can work harden and crack or shear off. people getting clumsy around the distributor can breake them off.
I put a high pressure oil pump in my engine and it pumped alot of oil up to the valve covers where it would leak out running or sitting. |

Gear oil smells way different than engine oil . Any auto part store will carry Fel-pro gaskets.
