Glove box lock problem on a 72.

I replaced the non locking glove box button with a lock button 10 years ago. It has always worked fine until last week. Now, pushing the button doesn't open the door. If you insert the key, it will turn continuously either direction. Pushing the button with the key in it also doesn't do anything. As a result, I can't get the door open. Anyone have an idea how to open the door to replace the key lock? I was going to drill it out, unless someone has a better idea. I played with it for over an hour, and nothing will release it and let me open the door.

fortunatly they make repro glove box's.

I replaced my lock one time but did not properly adjust its location..... ended up having to cut through the new card board glove box to release the lock mechanism from the inside.

you will probably have to cut away your box to gain access to the back side of the glove box door to un do the lock mechanism from inside.

box card board is not cheap but you may want to have a new one on hand for that rainy day.

needless to say but install adnd adjust your door/lock set up befor installing the crd board.

So you cut it from underneath? My truck has factory A/C, which changes the cardboard glove box. I hope I can still access from underneath. The lock has functioned fine for over a dozen years...until it decided to fail.

I dont know if yours is the same as mine, but i just had to WD40 my glove box lock because it wouldnt push in all the way. I had to push pretty hard on the button for the latch to lower enough to release the lock while rocking the key back and forth to wiggle the plunger. That seemed to do the trick for mine.

No, mine failed. The key would turn the lock 360 over and over again, and no amount of pushing released it.
