87 K5 dash pad install ?'s

Do the A pillar and the small trim that runs vertical on dash need to be removed to install dash pad?

Tried install 3 mines now and is not going far enough toward windshield and need to drop down to put screws in front of it.

I pulled mine, but because I didn't Wana break it. 2nd time around I just got rough with It and didn't care.
