Re: 1978 Russet Metallic 4x4
I think it would match very well. Mine is a 78 and i actually got the 77 trim for it because I like that even better. I'd say go for it if you can find the NOS parts. But you could just paint yours.

Re: 1978 Russet Metallic 4x4
I don't think the Blazer received the yellow trim, so I'd have to paint or vinyl stripe it. Probably vinyl stripe.

Re: 1978 Russet Metallic 4x4
Member tobytuttle used vinyl to stripe the trim on one of his trucks, link here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=575608 It's on page one so no digging necessary.
On your front bumper, did you smooth the welds? It looks much better than most you see from the era. |

Today we spent time servicing the winch. It's good now, but we need to touch up the bumper paint a bit on Monday. I'm installing a new inverter on the passenger side, so I built a cute little 8 AWG harness with an inline fuse. |

Re: 1978 Russet Metallic 4x4
I cut the mats and trimmed to fit. I used a straight edge ruler and a box cutter. Took two or three passes to get through. This stuff is very heavy rubber.
I added an inch or so in places to increase the overall coverage of the mats. The color match is remarkable. I am super pleased. I forgot to take a photo, but I cut a matching piece to go in the bottom of the center console. As a child, I remember the never ending rattle of screw drivers and hammers in there. Wanted to address that. I'll wash and detail the rubber before the reveal next Monday. Last edited by buffydores; 07-19-2017 at 03:38 PM. |

Re: 1978 Russet Metallic 4x4
Final two NOS pieces that need to go in. Those cruise control multi-function levers are rare birds (Part #6465256). It was a dealer installed option. The same part was used in Camaros. I upgraded the clock to the Quartz version in hopes that it will actually keep proper time.

Re: 1978 Russet Metallic 4x4
They did-I know of a 77 Silverado equipped Blazer in a truck salvage yard still sporting some of the yellow 77-only trim....none of it is worth saving but it was cool to see. NOS Blazer stuff is hard to find...I don't have a lot of it myself.

Re: 1978 Russet Metallic 4x4
What? I thought Cheyenne was the highest trim level for the Blazer in 1977. Either way, you could still have the yellow I guess. Don't know why they wouldn't.

I think Cheyenne was highest level trim higher than Silverado.

Nope. I think it's something with the body.

Re: 1978 Russet Metallic 4x4
Looks like the adjustment rod hole for the clock is offset a bit from the '73-'80 dash. I'm ordering a '81-'87 instrument cluster plastic. I'll drill the '73-'80 plexi as a temporary solution. The clock works, which is nice.

Re: 1978 Russet Metallic 4x4
Got the front end dressed up. Hard to see, but the bumper was built with Hickey style hooks welded on the bottom. Kinda cool. Got the new stickers on the winch. New wheels are supposed to be delivered tomorrow. Detailing this weekend.

Wheels are in. I'm waiting on the chrome trim rings to finish it up.

Re: 1978 Russet Metallic 4x4
Are those narrower than stock? Don't get me wrong, they look great, but they look like they're not as wide or maybe the offset is different.

Re: 1978 Russet Metallic 4x4
16"x8" with 4.75" backspacing. Factory backspacing is 4.25". I've added 1" wheel spacers, so these are actually wider than factory by .5". Maybe it's the change from 15" to 16" that makes it look different.

Re: 1978 Russet Metallic 4x4
Almost done. Still getting the clock, the fuel gauge sending unit and rear wheel spacers lined out. Then we're done. Just got all the rest ordered today. So probably the end of next week for all to be done.

Hello!
Where were you able to locate the dark saddle color for the door panels to match the other door components and the dash too!? You have an awesome truck!! |
