Wood Bed Floor

When I started fixing up my truck, my idea was to remove the bed liner and replace the wood floor with something that looked really nice and use stainless steel strips in lieu of the painted ones.

Now I'm not sure what to do. The truck will never be show quality. I want it to look nice and still use it as a truck. This weekend I picked up a load of landscape rock. This would have killed a nice bed floor. Starting to think about just replacing the floor and painting it like the factory did or maybe just some sort of sealer and leaving the wood raw. It is always garaged.

What are you guys doing for the floor if you are still using it as a truck.

Was thinking of experimenting with composit decking for bed floors. ? Cuts ok & wont rot , sturdy.

I know on the 42 the wood needed to be finished 3/4" thick. I am guessing a 67-72 is the same. Do they make the composite in 3/4" thick? it may be. Stock would be yellow pine with a coat of black paint on it. I think it is a thin spray coat both sides as the grain is still visible. Anyone know?

I just replaced mine this weekend. I did it as cheap as I could. I got 8 treated 1x6 and stain and sealer from lowes. bought bolts from Fastenal. got strips off ebay. its not factory correct but looks better than the rotten boards I had. one pece of advice-----DO NOT DO IT WITH BED ON TRUCK---WAY HARDER

Compostite deck boards are too thick. However, the fascia boards are perfect, and that's what I used on my 65. Stuff cuts like butter, and the truck sits outside all year and it still looks perfect.

Here's mine. Done w Trex decking. Used the original wood boards' profile, milled them with a table saw and used new strips. Bullet proof--even in the Texas sun.

Some good ideas. I am going to look into the Trex deck boards and if I need to get a load of dirt/rock, I'll just put a pad down over it.

Went with Oak in mine. I hit it with steel wool and a fresh coat of one step Poly/Stain every other spring. Being that I often haul in my bed, and the truck spends majority of time outside, was not sure how composite would stand up to that. Given how yours will be mostly garage kept and probably won't do much hauling, composite may be your best bet.

I love the seamlessly welded 1/8" thick bed my dad made himself but if I was going to do it, I'd do with teak or what Lou did. I really like his recessed tie downs.

I think i want to give it a try but I dont know what the measurements and what not should be

Where are those tie down hooks from?
