Question 1966 Chevy C-10 Steering Wheel vs 1972

Hey....We have a 1966 Chevy C-10 with a 1972 power steering column and wheel... filled with major cracks....want to replace the steering wheel with an 1966 Chevy C-10 original wheel.....will the old 66 wheel fit on to the 72 column shaft....splines?...and have an original appearance? Thanks in advance...

Cliff, both the 61-65 Impala / Truck wheel and the 66 Nova / Truck wheel will work on your 67-72 shaft

Thanks for the info....using the 66 OE Steering wheel on the 72 column assembly.....do you know if the 66 wheel horn button would activate the 72 horn switch......hoping it will....that would resolve a lot of concerns....would rather not do any unnecessary drilling into the dash of speedo bezel....

The 1967-72 horn contact plate and turn signal switch is totally different from a 60's style, so what you have to do it cut the Black wire (or maybe it unplugs?) that is going to your horn contact plate (plastic round thing with a brass plunger in it) and connect it to the little horn contact brass tang on your 60's turn signal switch - then your horn should work. The existing horn contact plate is a separate piece from your turn signal switch in the 72 column, so you will have to take a look and see how the wire is connected to that plate thing - if it unplugs, then great - should plug up to your 60's brass ring type contact no problemo. If it does not unplug, cut and add the proper connector and then plug it up

Hey Clif how did this turn out? Im doing sort of the same thing. I have a column from Brothers for a 67 and my truck is a 66. The 66 steering wheel seems to have a bigger spline unless I'm doing something wrong.

CVANN......Hey......First of all.....I'm a hobbiest...not a knowledgeable mechanic or engineer.......with the assistance of numerous members...my column assembly is backtogather....on the bench......too cold for a 74 year old with no garage or carport.....to install....

Now for your question......I used the 1972 GMC Power Steering box and shaft-2 piece with the 1966 Chevy Automatic column assembly... ( tube) ......and the OE Steering wheel....it appears to function properly.....no problem with the splines...

two items of interest.....there is a 1/4 " gap directly behind the steering wheel....and the Park/Neutral switch doesn't fit into the switch groove/lever properly.....some modification will be necessary for this to function properly....

The group did notice there are lots of photo's and parts exploded diagrams available...however all of them are for the column stick shifts or earlier model years ...unable to find an official 1966 Auto column diagram with all of the minor parts...like the transmission selector bulb assembly... .there are numerous differences in the minor parts by year.....
