need some stereo install ideas
I want to put a modern cd player in my 65 sub.
... but I don't want to cut up the dash. any ideas/ pics on how to mount it under the dash? been looking it over, just not sure where to start and what to start it with-wood, metal? probably not fiberglass, or plastic, since I have no knowledge of working with those materials.

Re: need some stereo install ideas
I plan to use a marine grade cd player with a remote. In a sububba you might have to build a center console or build a box and use pc fans to supply cool air to it under your seat or a bigger one with the amps under the rear passenger bench.

Stumbled on this, http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...3036_200653036 Basic idea is not new. I will probably try to make something similar. I previously I had giant Cadillac 60/40 seat with cd changer under it and tuner in the dash.

Re: need some stereo install ideas
go with a Retro Sound. this way you can install an Ipod or similar device or even a memory stick. holds thousands of songs. I can help with the music i have 71,000 songs on my hard drive. here is my install

Re: need some stereo install ideas
The Retro Sound now has a option to mount just the face and locate the body elsewhere. Price comparable to some top end stuff.
Corvette jim your system seems a little dated. I run one Arc Audio 1100 in my DD one 10" sub. The need for all the stuff we use to use is taken care of. I had a hard time changing my mind. Plus is small and powerful.

Re: need some stereo install ideas
Another vote for Retro Sound. Put a Hermosa in my '72 Camino and love it. Looks fairly stock yet has USB port and Bluetooth for answering phone or streaming audio. Way better quality then Custom Autosound.
CD's are so old school. Convert them over to MP3's, throw them on a large flash drive and never fumble with a CD again.

Re: need some stereo install ideas
Don't waste your time with a cd player. USB drives or Bluetooth are the way to go. I installed a Retrosound and am quite happy with it. Mine is an older model that does not have Bluetooth, I have to plug in my phone with a wire in the glove box. USB lead is also in glove box.

Re: need some stereo install ideas
You might try something like I did on my 71 Cadillac Hearse. I also didn't want to cut up the dash. I bought an AM/FM cassette stereo off eBay and then bought an FM modulated 10 Disc changer and mounted the CD changer behind the seat of my Hearse and even on my C-10 I wanted just more than a single CD (the radio was already in my truck when I bought it I would have NEVER cut up my dash) I bought a 10 FM modulated CD changer and mounted it under the seat of my C 10.

Re: need some stereo install ideas
When I was thinking about using a bluetooth amp in my truck. Its hidden and you use a remote to control it. You can play music from your cell phone or ipod.

A simple dash mount Retro Radio, if dash is not butchered like mine, with the possibility to relocate body elsewhere if there is clearance issues, ac or other. Simply use deck power or opinions of amps. Bluetooth so you can stream oldies, thumb drive to switch between vehicles. A hidden antenna or if standard one still there. Dealer installed gets you warranty.
